Masizakhe Community Pre-School

Masizakhe Community Pre-School Pre-School in Site B, Khayelitsha for 85 children aged 6 months to 6 years. www.masizakhe.org.za All corporate sponsors will be listed on our website.

Masizakhe Community Pre-School currently looks after approximately 140 children aged 1 to 6, and receives no department of education or department of social services funding. A group of independent fundraisers try to arrange a year-end gift for each child, and also try to support the school as much as possible each year. Information on the school and its history can be found at www.masizakhe.org.z

a. The school requires the following food items on a daily basis:
* whitestar miellie meal
* samp and beans
* Speko rice
* fish oil
* split peas
* spaghetti/macaroni
* oats
* tomato paste
* Morvite cereal. In order to give each child a year-end gift, the only gift ever received for some of the children, we are in need of the following (new) items:
• Books for age 1 to 6
• Soft toys for all of the children, small cars for the boys, small dolls for the girls
• Small size baby lotion, baby powder or pocket size Vaseline
• Facecloth or bath sponge, toothbrush and toothpaste
• A5 exercise books, ballpoint pens, colouring books, activity books, crayons, pencil crayons, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, small 15cm rulers
• Sweets (nothing that could melt and preferably in a sealed packet)
• Clothing (dress, t-shirt and shorts, underwear) for ages 1 to 6

You can help by:
• Providing some of the listed items above if in Cape Town, or
• Sponsoring a year-end gift box (or more than one) at R300 per gift box, or
• Making any donation you can spare into our fundraising bank account or our PayPal account, or
• spreading the word amongst your colleagues and friends, to give us as much exposure as we can get. We look forward to receiving your offer of help, and will make sure receipts are issued for any donations of items or funds. If you would like to visit the school at any time, please contact us, and you are also welcome to join us annually on the day we hand out the year-end gifts to the children.

50 children and 5 teachers from the school enjoyed a trip to Kirstenbosch today. It wasn't the best weather, but it was 2 hours of fun!!
The group experienced the Fragrance Garden, the Braille Trail, The Protea Display and the Boomslang. We were going to have a picnic, but it started pouring just as we were ready to settle down. Shaun, the bus driver, picked up the group early, and they went back to the school with their picnic lunch.
Thanks to Samantha Leppan Wichary, Candi Leppan Bracken, Felicity, Beverley Swimmer and Andrew for the picnic lunch prep, and thanks to Samantha, Candi, Hamish and Beverley for joining the outing.

The new school year has started, with a few children. Most children will be back next month. For the moment the teachers and carers are keeping the children entertained, while waiting for the school learning schedule to formally start when all pupils are back.

Thanks to everyone who donated to our food hamper year-end project for the Masizakhe children and their families. We raised just over our target amount for the project.

Thanks to Adrian & Fiona, Di and an anonymous sponsor for donating via our GivenGain page.
Thanks to Hamish, Samantha, and Joanne for EFT donations.
Thanks to Ruth for the Euros.
Thanks to Stadler for your monthly contributions that assist us with this project and others.
Thanks as always to Shoeboxes of Love who assist each year, this year with an EFT and previous years with box gifts.
Thanks to Deborah Teubes and Happy Ethan Project who were supported by Plumtree Playschool in Tokai, for the children's hampers and for the boxes of "extras" and other donations. This was a wonderful surprise.
And thanks to Section Five for the loan of the vehicles to transport everything to the school.

Without all of you this would not be possible. Doreen passed on messages of thanks from the parents of the children, from the teachers and from members of the community for the gifts.
