This World Mental Health Day, Survé Philanthropies highlights the Institute for Healing of Memories (IHOM) and its Healing of Memories Workshops.

This year’s theme, Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change, highlights the importance of listening to people’s experiences and recognising the value of their stories. Through safe spaces where people can share their experiences and feel heard, IHOM’s workshops support healing, connection and emotional well-being.

We recognise the importance of creating supportive environments where individuals and communities can work towards healing.

On International Day of Non-Violence, Survé Philanthropies reflects on the power of peaceful action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.

Observed on 2 October, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, the day recognises the enduring principles of non-violence and the power of dialogue, understanding and collective action.

Non-violence does not mean remaining silent in the face of injustice. It means using our voices, our actions and our collective strength to advocate for change without resorting to violence.

As part of our commitment to human rights and social justice, we believe that meaningful change can be built through peaceful action, respect and a willingness to understand one another.

Save the date for Survé Philanthropies’ 16 Days of Activism High Tea on 19 December 2026 at the Castle of Good Hope, Cape Town.

This World Cleanup Day, we’re reminded that protecting our environment starts with taking action.

Our partner, I AM WATER, works to connect young people with the ocean through environmental education and experiences that inspire them to become Ocean Guardians. From beach and riverbank clean-ups to ocean education, their work empowers communities to better understand and protect the environments around them.

At Survé Philanthropies, we’re proud to support initiatives that encourage environmental stewardship and inspire the next generation to care for our oceans.

Together, we can turn connection into action and action into lasting change.

On Sunday, 13 September, the community came together for the Walking Football Family Funday in support of Cape Town community icon Farouk Abrahams, who is undergoing ongoing treatment and medical care for Stage 4 cancer.

The day brought families, football legends, supporters and members of the community together through football, food and family activities, while raising support for Farouk and his journey.

Survé Philanthropies was proud to support this community-led initiative alongside Futbol Kings and the organisers, helping bring people together around a cause that reminds us of the strength found in community.

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported and contributed to making the day possible.

Our heritage tells the story of who we are, where we come from and the communities that have shaped South Africa.

Through our partnership with the Cape Heritage Museum, Survé Philanthropies supports the preservation and sharing of the diverse histories, cultures and stories that have shaped the Cape.

In this spotlight, we explore the museum’s journey, the stories it preserves and its work to educate and connect communities through heritage.

Based at the historic Castle of Good Hope, the Cape Heritage Museum provides a space where these stories can be shared, preserved and experienced by generations to come.
Together, we’re helping preserve our past while inspiring future generations to engage with the stories that shape our country.

In recognition of International Day of Democracy, we reflect on the values at the heart of a democratic society: freedom, equality, dignity and the opportunity for every person to have a voice.
For South Africa, these ideals remain an important part of our journey and a reminder of the responsibility we share in building communities where people are empowered to participate, contribute and shape a better future.

At Survé Philanthropies, we believe that creating opportunities and supporting inclusive communities is part of building a more just and equitable society.
