The Homestead Projects for Street Children

The Homestead Projects for Street Children Our Mission is to ensure that there are no children living, working or begging on the streets of Cape Town.

The Homestead is a 40 year old organisation, established in 1982, that takes care of children who used to live, beg and work on the streets, also has Prevention and Early Intervention Programmes for children at risk of ending up on the streets. This is achieved through prevention, outreach, intake, residential therapy, family reunification and job creation projects. Donate to the Homestead and Help us to get and keep children off the street.

"Working Together to End Violence Against Children"

Our Yizani Drop-In Centre in Woodstock, recently held an awareness programme focusing on Child Protection Week.

Representatives from SAPS Cape Town, educated the children and families about how to be safe in the community and how to keep children safe, while a representative from the Cape Town Drug Counselling Centre educated the children and their parents about substance use in young people - the effects and the available support.

The beneficiaries from the Drop-In Centre showcased their own presentations on what they have learnt about children's rights and responsibilities. The demonstration was performed through a small skit.

Connecting to work better together!

Staff from our LaunchPad Child and Youth Care Centre and Yizani Drop-In Centre, got together for a team building session.

The team participated in mindful practice and team connection. There was a walk in the garden and a time for art and a time for reflection.

During the walk in the garden, the team had the opportunity to explore nature and the impact it has on how the staff can evolve as human beings.

Mindful practice allowed the team to engage in a meditation session, whereby they could reflect on the past, present and future.

The team indicated that the activities made them.connect more to nature, uplifted their mood and at the end, they felt closer to the team.

Appreciation to Afromation for facilitating the session and Soil for Life for hosting the team.

Staff from our Manenberg Drop-In Centre, cooked and shared a lovely meal of samp and beans stew. This meal was shared with our beneficiaries.

The pot was so huge, the staff were still able to provide an additional 76 meals to the families and the surrounding community members. 🫘πŸ₯˜πŸ₯£

It is amazing to see what our beneficiaries at our Bishop Lavis Drop-In Centre created using toilet-roll holders, turning them into art!

Not only was this a great lesson in reusing the toilet-roll holders, but it also served as a reminder of the importance of recycling.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!

Mom's are the absolute best! From teaching us to walk and talk when we were babies, ensuring, that no matter what, a mom's love is never-ending and we always have her support.

Mom's, Aunt's, Grannies, caregivers and legal guardians - were blessed with beautiful cards for Mother's Day. The beneficiaries from our Yizani Drop-In Centre in District Six made sure to create beautiful cards with heart-warming messages! πŸ’ŒπŸ’
