SAFA CAPE TOWN ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP AT QUADRENNIAL CONGRESS
Cape Town, 12 April 2026 โ SAFA Cape Town successfully convened its Quadrennial Elective Congress today at the University of the Western Cape, marking the conclusion of a protracted and highly contested period within the organisation.
The Congress reaffirmed its leadership core, electing Bennett Bailey as President, alongside Vice Presidents Nomonde Ndyoko, Linda Pistoli, and Andrew Bothman. Reyaad Joseph was elected as Secretary, with Sadick Williams assuming the role of Treasurer.
The outcomes signal a mandate for continuity, stability, and renewed focus as SAFA Cape Town positions itself for growth and transformation over the next four years.
In his acceptance address, President Bailey outlined a bold and progressive agenda aimed at elevating football development across all levels. Key priorities include:
โข The establishment of a new Futsal League to diversify the
football offering;
โข Strengthening and expanding the Cape Town High
Performance Youth League;
โข Securing sustainable funding for a Womenโs Super
League, set to replace the now-defunct Sasol League.
President Bailey also called on Local Football Associations (LFAs) to nominate specialists and practitioners, emphasizing the need for expertise-driven leadership to advance the game.
Further, he confirmed that SAFA Cape Town will intensify its pursuit to host major PSL finals, positioning the region as a premier destination for elite football events.
In a significant closing remark, President Bailey announced his intention to contest for the SAFA National Presidency, citing the need for โdynamic, decisive, and forward-thinking leadershipโ at national level. By way of acclimation, the Congress agreed that Mr Bailey should avail himself for the high profile leadership position.
The Congress concluded on a note of unity and renewed purpose, with delegates committing to work collectively in advancing football across Cape Town.
