It’s June and the start of our season! We’d love for as many fairies to join in. Pop a Pride sticker on a book, maybe add a little rainbow ribbon, and hide it for a lucky finder 🌈

Another great way to celebrate is to share a pic of one of your favourite Pride related books, and maybe do a post!

This coming Thursday is World Book Night and The Book Fairies are celebrating this initiative, encouraging the act of reading in our busy day-to-day lives! While it’s usually aimed at the UK, we think that everyone around the world deserves to celebrate and take some time out of their day on Shakespeare’s birthday 💚

What is World Book Night?

From 7pm to 8pm GMT this Thursday, people plan to dedicate their time to reading, sharing their activity under the hashtag . This can happen in many different ways, whether you’re reading alone, hosting a book club meeting, listening to an audiobook on the train, or reading to your children at
bedtime. Just get reading! Many around the world celebrate World Book Day also on the 23rd of April 📚

How can I prepare?

Share the news with family and friends, let them know that, for one hour, there may be a little quiet between telephones as you snuggle up with a book. You can
also choose your book ahead of time, and get excited about entering a new world, for however long you’d like!

As April 23rd is a certain Bard’s birthday, maybe pick up a play of his you’ve not read yet, or a collection of sonnets. The choice is yours!

We encourage you to take some time out of your evening to unwind and prioritise your TBR, whether it be for the full hour, or five minutes, show your bookshelf
some love!

A Cape Town Book Fairy is sharing their current read with us, a funny dysfunctional family saga.

About the book:
The Flynn family is coming undone. Catherine and Bud’s open marriage has reached its breaking point as their daughters spiral in their own chaotic: Abigail, the eldest, is dating a man in his twenties nicknamed War Crime Wes; Louise, the middle child, maintains a secret correspondence with an online terrorist; the brilliant youngest, Harper, is being sent to wilderness reform camp due to her insistence that someone or something is monitoring the town’s citizens.

Casting a shadow across their lives, and their small coastal town, is Paul Alabaster, a billionaire shipping magnate. Rumors of corruption circulate, but no one dares dig too deep. No one except Harper, whose obsession with a mysterious shipping container sends the family hurtling into a criminal conspiracy, one that may just bring them closer together.

“I don’t answer, because what is there to say? I understand in this moment that every woman, rich or poor, madam or maid, dreams of escape.”

A Book Fairy is sharing their current read with us, a suspenseful local gem: Cape Fever by Nadia Davids…how cute is that bookmark 💙💚

About the book:

The year is 1920, in a small, unnamed city in a colonial empire. Soraya Matas believes she has found the ideal job as a personal maid to the eccentric Mrs. Hattingh, whose beautiful, decaying home is not far from The Muslim Quarter where Soraya lives with her parents. As Soraya settles into her new role, she discovers that the house is alive with spirits.

While Mrs. Hattingh eagerly awaits her son’s visit from London, she offers to help Soraya stay in touch with her fiancé Nour by writing him letters on her behalf. So begins a strange weekly meeting where Soraya dictates and Mrs. Hattingh writes, a ritual that binds the two women to one another and eventually threatens the sanity of both.

This South African gem donated by was placed at the Burner Restaurant in Century City🔥

About the book:

In the Eastern Cape, the gale force winds have nothing on the chanting gees of the boys at the prestigious local school. Isaac ‘Izzy’ Kingston, a recent matriculant and newly minted varsity dropout, has several bashers’ worth of hilarious and harrowing school memories to share with a sympathetic audience. Isaac’s nostalgic first-person confessional, peppered with tongue-in-cheek observations, takes readers from the testosterone-fuelled excitement and high drama of the rugby field on Reunion Weekend to near-death encounters on overnight excursions in Cradock.
