I have written this for my closure and healing. I have forgiven my father, he made his choices and will remain accountable for those, even at 91 his relationship with all of his biological, and numerous grand, and great-grandchildren remains the same, non existant, with only one common denominator here. I hope that sharing this will help heal and bring closure to others battling and struggling with similar issues.
Things my father taught me.
A father yes, a Dad sadly no,
Thank you for not being there, thank you for not fighting for or standing up for me, thank you for not protecting, nurturing, and guiding;
It's taught me, to put them first above all else, and, the importance of fighting for, standing up, and protecting my children.
Thank you for not showing or remembering, I have never forgotten or not remembered.
Thank you for not expressing or showing love, this has taught me how much they need it.
Thank you for the open ridiculing, the devastation and double standards, the lies and, the lack of respect…
You taught me how vital these things are and how necessary and important they are in building, cherishing, and unveiling the value of a human being and my children.
Thank you for teaching me how a Dad should not be, I have learned how it should be.
Thank you for teaching me, that we can learn from the failure of others,
Thank you for teaching me how valuable, cherished, and loved children and grandchildren should be.
Thank you for setting me free, I have cried for 62 years - thank you the tears are over.
Thank you for teaching me the value of honour, respect, integrity, value, and love.
Thank you for teaching me, I Am a Dad.
