23 August 2026 - Sea Point Prominade Adventure

Volunteers and children left their homes on Sunday morning on a bright, sunny day to head to the Sea Point promenade for today’s hike. Only to arrive at the Moullie Point lighthouse enveloped in a deep fog, with the foghorn blaring every few seconds as we reoriented ourselves to this unexpected landscape.

The moment the kids saw Dani Saporetti they sprinted across the grass, arms flung out in delight! It was the turn of our younger members this month, and they entertained themselves on the playground equipment as we got their snacks and supplies ready.

Soon the walk began and we made our way all the way to Milton Beach, with some detours to the giant sunglasses and more playgrounds. And as we walked the sun gradually broke through and melted the fog away. The kids LOVE the beach! They splashed in the rocks pools and swam in the tidal pool until eventually, wet and happy, it was time to meander back to the lighthouse and the trip home.

We had a lovely interaction with a lady walking her dog on the promenade. She asked us who the kids were and we told her about Nyanga Hiking Club. She was quite emotional and told us “the joy is actually affecting me” - We wholeheartedly agree!!

Part 2 💚 26 July 2026 - Cecilia Waterfall

At the waterfall, the kids had a blast! Several of them leapt into the falling water, getting soaked amongst laughter and yells of delight. After a half hour of rest and enjoyment of the waterfall space, we hiked back to the parking area through fynbos and blue gum plantations.

Jasmin was our hike leader today, and she was supported by a dozen volunteers and a group of hike leaders from Nyanga. A shoutout from Nyanga Hiking Club to these young men; they were serious, responsible and clearly role models for the younger hikers. We were grateful for their presence today, as the hike went without a hitch.

A massive and ongoing thank you to Nyanga Leaders on the ground, the fantastic Khaya & Mikki, for being on the ground at the bus to support our members boarding. We can't do what we do without this collaborative leadership and teamwork.

Part 1💚 26 July 2026 - Cecilia Forest (9-13 years) + leaders

Sunny days in winter are some of the most wonderful days of the year. The wind is gone, the sun shines brightly in a clear blue sky; in the forest, it’s cold in the shade but gloriously warm in the sun. Cape Town is always a special place, but days like today make it even better. We had 67 kids today arrive at Cecelia Parking area for our hike to the Cecelia Waterfall.
