We can not truly protect what we do not understand.

At Mayine e Afrika Foundation, we introduce young people from underserved communities of Newcrossroads, Phillipi and Gugulethu to environmental education so that they can build understanding, form a deeper connection with nature, and begin to see themselves as part of it, not separate from it.

When that connection grows, care becomes natural, and responsibility becomes personal.

For us cleaning a beach is so much more than picking up litter. It is an act of care and responsibility, a reminder that we are connected to the spaces we live in. It teaches respect for nature, for community, and for ourselves.

We want our young people to see that they are not separate from their environment, but part of it. It builds pride, awareness, and a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves.

This also builds discipline, teamwork, leadership, and awareness in our young people, helping them understand that even the smallest actions can make a real difference🌊

Thank you to our collaborators🙌 Amava Oluntu, Clean Green Muizenberg, Masibulele Hlazo Siyamamkela Matshisi when we come together, even small actions become something bigger and more meaningful.

To everyone who continues to stand with us, support us, and walk this journey with Mayine e Afrika.

Our first beach clean-up is taking place this coming Saturday, 23 May 2026.

This initiative is about more than cleaning a space. It is about restoring dignity to our natural environments and reshaping how we see responsibility. Every bottle collected, every piece of plastic removed, will be a reminder that small actions, when done collectively, can create real change.

For our young people especially, this is about awareness.

It is about learning that leadership is not only found in boardrooms, but also in how we care for the spaces we live in.

At Mayine e Afrika Foundation we cultivate a deep respect for self, respect for others, and respect for the environment, we seek to nurture young leaders who are not only self-aware and grounded, but also deeply considerate of others and consciously committed to protecting and preserving the world they live in.

Art, creativity, and nature are powerful ways for people to reconnect with themselves, awaken their imagination, connect with themselves, and express what they may struggle to put into words.

Here, we attended an arts and creativity session at The Commons Muizenberg with our boys. All our pieces were inspired by nature.

We do not ONLY correct behaviour.
We do not ONLY tell young people what NOT to do.
We can not continue expecting healthy outcomes from unhealthy environments.

Instead, let's work together in creating systems, spaces, and environments that help young people from underserved communities make healthier decisions and feel emotionally safe enough to become better versions of themselves.

And that is the kind of liberation we want for our young people.

Please leave a green heart for the emotional well-being of our young people. 💚

NB: We are a non-profit organisation committed to environmental education for young people in underserved communities.

We invite you to join us in this journey through collaboration/ partnership as we continue building spaces that heal, empower, and restore young lives.

The environment around us doesn’t just surround us, it shapes us in quiet but powerful ways. It is closely linked to our physical health, mental health, emotional well-being, and it can also influence our decisions and behaviour.

Clean, safe, and cared for spaces can support better focus, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being. On the other hand, neglected or unsafe environments can add to stress and affect how people think, feel, and respond to life.

Our environmental education programme helps young people move from feeling affected by their environment to becoming active participants in improving it.

Through our programme, young people get to understand and experience that as their environment begins to change, something within them will start to shift as well. They will grow in self-awareness, develop self-confidence, and slowly begin to rediscover hope in the spaces they live in. Their sense of dignity and pride will start to take root, and that will help them to value themselves more deeply.

When a space reflects care, it gently reshapes how young people see their own worth and what they believe is possible for their future. This is why we say a clean, cared-for space is not just about appearance, it directly supports overall well-being.

If you care about the well-being of our young people, please leave a green heart 💚

Real change is not only in telling young people what to STOP doing.

We don’t just correct behaviour... we shape environments.

Environmental awareness is one of the key tools we use at Mayine e Afrika Foundation to support holistic youth development.

Through consistent engagement, young people begin to build respect for nature, develop responsibility in protecting the environment, and grow in patience, discipline, and a deeper sense of belonging.

Special thanks SANParks Honorary Rangers South African National Parks Nature Connect Table Mountain Fund for your support and commitment in providing access to conservation and environmental education to our young people.

Support the cause and join us in creating spaces that nurture growth and dignity for our young people.
