EKhaya EKasi Art and Educational Centre The eKhaya eKasi Center is a non-profit organization based in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

Established in 2008 as an Oasis, we provide charitable and entrepreneurial activities to families affected by poverty and Hiv/Aids through arts and education. Like many South Africans who heeded the President’s call to lockdown the country on March 23rd in 2020, the Centre has had to close shop and staff and volunteers had to stay home to observe the rules of the covid-19 regulations. During this

period, we have lost clients and revenue which was critical to keep us afloat; and we have also not been able to pay critical operational costs to ensure that we cope during the lockdown. However we have opened a soup kitchen in April, using our inhouse industrial kitchen; and are now serving community meals to over 1000 residents a week in Khayelitsha. We have joined a fast-growing social movement known as the Cape Action Network (CAN) and recently the Fundraising Monitoring Network (MFN) to strengthen our efforts. We have also received small grants and food donations that allow us to keep the Centre opened every day to feed the community. All this is part of our emergency response strategy to help slow down the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
