Exciting things are happening in our community!

SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) is responsible for providing social grants and support to millions of South Africans, including seniors, people living with disabilities and vulnerable families.

We’re excited to be part of a new pilot initiative with
SASSA Wynberg, where staff from CHS Life Centre/ CHSCapeTown, The Table Cafe and Ubomi Trust have been trained to help people access SASSA’s online services.

Together with SASSA staff, we’ll be taking these services into one of our local communities, helping people who may struggle to reach government offices or access the services online.

What makes this especially meaningful is seeing our church, which is also a community centre, partnering with government to serve the community around us.

Something exciting is beginning at CHS Life Centre!

We’re launching a new Recovery Group, creating a welcoming space for people affected by addiction to come together, find connection, build understanding and take meaningful steps towards lasting change.

Whether you’re seeking freedom from addiction, already walking a recovery journey, or a family member, friend or supporter walking alongside someone you love, there is a place for you here.

Recovery is about more than simply breaking free from addiction. It’s an ongoing journey of becoming, growing and learning to live differently.

Together, we’ll explore the realities of addiction and recovery, develop practical tools, share honestly, encourage one another and build the support systems needed to navigate life’s challenges.

You don’t have to walk this journey alone, and you don’t have to have everything figured out. Whether you’re taking your first step or continuing a journey already begun, you are welcome.

Let’s learn, grow and take the next steps together.

🎓✨ Our First Career Expo!

What an incredible day of connection, opportunity and hope for our Grade 11 learners and unemployed young adults.

This Career Expo was initiated by Ubomi / Church of the Holy Spirit (CHS) in partnership with Financial Coach Foundations and Opportunity Labs, creating a space where young people could explore careers, discover opportunities and take practical steps towards their future.

A huge thank you to:

Our incredible volunteer team and small group leaders who gave their time and energy to make the day possible.

Namaskar Express, a local Kirstenhof business, for generously donating lunches for everyone attending.

Our local council, for supporting the initiative as an indirect partner.

Our Job Journey partners, who helped connect young people with valuable career and employment opportunities.

We’re so grateful to everyone who played a part in making our first Career Expo happen. Here’s to creating more opportunities, opening more doors and helping young people step confidently into their future. 🙌🏽

Over the past two weeks, we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside a group of individuals as they’ve taken steps towards a new chapter in their lives.

Through Job Journey, they’ve been developing practical workplace skills, growing in confidence, discovering their strengths and considering what God may have ahead for them.

Now, we got to celebrate them!

This is more than a certificate or the completion of a course. It’s an opportunity to honour their courage, celebrate their progress and stand with them as they step towards new possibilities.
