Our Call to South Africa
While South Africa observes Women's Month, Hope for the Future calls on every South African to observe August as a National Month of Mourning.
This is a month to remember every woman and every child whose life has been taken through gender-based violence, domestic violence, r**e, abuse, femicide, child abuse, neglect, trafficking, and every other form of violence.
We mourn every mother.
We mourn every daughter.
We mourn every sister.
We mourn every grandmother.
We mourn every baby.
We mourn every child.
We mourn every life stolen far too soon.
Many were killed by those they knew and trusted—husands, boyfriends, partners, fathers, relatives, caregivers, and others who chose violence instead of love.
Many survivors continue to live with the lifelong effects of abuse, r**e, trauma, and violence.
This month is dedicated to every victim whose name became known to the nation, and to every victim whose name was never made public.
No one should suffer in silence.
No one should die at the hands of violence.
Every life matters.

Why We Mourn
Every day, families across South Africa lose mothers, daughters and children to violence.
Every day, children experience abuse where they should have found love and protection.
Every day, communities are left grieving.
Violence has become one of the greatest crises facing our country.
Hope for the Future believes that remembrance is an act of compassion, and that every victim deserves to be remembered with dignity.
This Month of Mourning is our commitment to stand with grieving families, support survivors, raise awareness, and call for an end to gender-based violence and violence against children.
To every women and child:
We remember you.
We honour you.
You mattered.
You will never be forgotten.
