When a baby is born parents anticipate that their child will live a long happy life, but this is not always the case. Sometimes there are conditions that are not evident at birth but are discovered as the child grows up. Autism is one such condition and it is described as a lifelong developmental disability which first displays itself in infancy and early childhood, causing delays in many basic areas of development, such as learning to talk, play, and interact with others.

April is Autism Awareness Month, a time dedicated by activists and communities to advocate for and raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). During this month we empower the public, and health and welfare service providers with information, dispel misconceptions, and promote a deeper understanding of Autism to help reduce stigma and discrimination.

Press Release
Day of Sports for Peace and Development in Scottsville
Saturday, 29 March - Scottsville, South Africa
On Saturday, 29 March, community organizations and partners came together to host a remarkable event aimed at bringing unity to the community of Scottsville, which has been divided by gang activity and territorial tensions. The event, dubbed the Day of Sports for Peace and Development, showcased the collective efforts of the local community to foster peace and development.
A highlight of the day was the introduction of the newly formed Scottsville Trompoppies, who have been preparing especially for this event. The United Spiritual Dancers, under the guidance of Sister Irene Williams, also contributed to the vibrant celebrations with an enchanting performance of their craft.
The trompoppies/drummies are under the tutelage of Rachel Manus, with their stunning uniforms created by Juanita Magerman. Their graceful performance was one of the day's many captivating moments.
The event officially kicked off at 10 AM and was joined by the drummies and spiritual dancers just after 12 midday, marching their way through Scottsville to join the activities. The girls was accompanied by the Ford Addicts cars in convoy from Titus Street to Dalia Street. It was a powerful and heart-warming display of community spirit.
Later, at 2 PM, the Bikers Food Drive joined the celebration, bringing a convoy of 20 motorbikes to accompany the food trucks, providing 900 liters of food to the attendees. The generosity of the Bikers added to the warmth and inclusivity of the day. A special mention goes to the community soccer team from Wallacedene, who also participated in the festivities and enjoyed the event's offerings.
The Day of Sports for Peace and Development was made possible by the support of a wide range of individuals and organizations within the Scottsville community. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the following contributors:
• Adriaan Speelman – Convenor & Organiser
• Rachel Manus – Drummies Instructor
