We were honoured to support APHA (Advocates for the Prevention of HIV in Africa) during their wellness day for young women. 💜❤️🩸

Through their community work, APHA creates safe spaces for conversations around HIV prevention, SRHR, GBV, healthy relationships, and other important social issues. During this project, period poverty emerged as a key challenge, highlighting the importance of addressing menstrual health alongside broader community wellbeing.

As part of our commitment to ending period poverty, we donated sanitary products to help ensure that every participant had access to essential menstrual care. Together, we’re helping to restore dignity, empower young women, and create healthier, more supported communities.

As part of our birthday celebrations, we donated over 200 packs of pads to Ncuncuzo Combined, Mtetuvumile SSS and Sabata SSS in the Chris Hani District in Cofimvaba across the Eastern Cape.

While our primary focus remains in the Western Cape, wherever we are able to support organisations and communities elsewhere around the country, we do!

What started out as a community hand out at the peak of the COVID Pandemic has turned into the most beautiful community.

We’ve grown.
We’ve empowered.
We’ve advocated.
We’ve tackled the hard questions.
We’ve listened.
We’ve laughed.
We’ve cried.
We’ve shared stories.

Most importantly … we’ve done it all TOGETHER!

Every day, we are inspired by the strength, kindness, resilience, and passion that exists within this community. From day one we’ve watched our Mama Flo village grow and expand and with each new member, each donation … we know we continue to play a vital role in alleviating period poverty!

Almost six years ago now (we can’t believe it either) we met the amazing Khanyisa and were grateful to still be working with him all these years down the line 🤍❤️🩸

With the help of Khanyisa, our original Bro Flo, we hosted a a workshop & pad hand out at Sinethemba High School where the students interacted with our Mama Flo ambassadors, learnt more about periods and got to ask questions many are too often either to embarrassed to ask or never have a chance to ask 🤍

Freedom Day in South Africa reminds us of the importance of equality, dignity, and the right for every person to live with freedom and respect. It celebrates the country’s journey toward democracy and justice for all. In the same spirit, Mama Flo stands against period poverty by helping girls and women access period products and education about menstrual health. 🩸🩸

Period poverty takes away confidence, opportunities, and dignity, especially for young girls who miss school because they cannot afford basic hygiene products. By supporting organizations like Mama Flo, we continue the true meaning of Freedom Da,building a future where everyone can live with pride, freedom, and equal opportunity.

Over a lifetime, one person may use up to 17,000 disposable period products, most ending up in landfill.

At the same time, 500 million people globally still lack access to safe menstrual products, highlighting the link between sustainability, equity, and dignity.

At Mama Flo, we’ve always focused on finding the most sustainable solutions — both financially and environmentally — ensuring that access to period products is not only better for the planet, but also more accessible and affordable for those who need them most.

This World Earth Day, let’s continue to advocate for:

🌱 Reducing menstrual waste
