The tigress Arabella is a true wildfire survivor 🐅

For everyone following her journey at Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary, you know her rehab and burn recovery has been a long, slow journey.

Requiring endless patience, love and dedicated wildlife rescue care. Healing wild animals takes time, and she is getting there, step by step 🐾

Because she loves her space, catching clear footage of her progress is incredibly rare.

But look closely at that last photo. You can see the beautiful pink healing skin on the underside of her paw.

This is the moment we have all been waiting for!

This is how travel becomes part of something bigger 🌱

Through OKOA's partnership with support from travellers and donors is helping fund grassroots conservation and education projects across Africa.

Together, we have helped .sunbird.restoration expand its Eco Club program and indigenous school gardens, which form part of a larger vision to reconnect habitat for sunbirds across Cape Town.

Every garden planted is helping grow something bigger:
knowledge, connection, and a generation of young people who care about the natural world around them 💚

📸 Thank you

As more travelers seek meaningful wildlife experiences, understanding what ethical conservation truly looks like has never been more important.

At Panthera Africa, rescued animals are given lifelong care in a sanctuary environment where their wellbeing comes before entertainment or profit.

That is why supporting Panthera Africa’s recovery after the fires matters so deeply 🧡

Sometimes the most important growth isn't in the garden 🌱

When this student first joined Ingcungcu's Eco Club, it was simply something to do after school.

Today, she speaks about plants differently. She notices them. She asks questions about them. She wants to learn their names and understand how they support the environment around her.

That kind of curiosity matters.

Because long-term conservation doesn't begin with protecting landscapes. It begins with helping people feel connected to them.

After years of confinement, healing begins with something many wild animals have never truly known.
Choice.

At Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary, that healing looks like natural habitats shaped by fynbos and open landscapes. Spaces designed for privacy, dignity, and the freedom to simply be.

True wildlife conservation is about more than survival. It is about how animals live, rest, explore, and heal on their own terms.

Life beginning again, without fear.

The Okoa Fund proudly supports partners like Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary to help provide rescued wildlife with lifelong care.

Conservation is also about belonging.
About young people feeling connected to the places they live, and believing they can leave something better behind for those who come after them.

That’s what makes programmes like Eco Club with Ingcungcu Sunbird Restoration so meaningful.
Not just planting gardens or learning about nature, but creating pride, purpose, and connection within a community.

Long-term conservation has always depended on people. And when people, especially young people, feel part of something hopeful, real change can grow from there 🌷💚

The Story of Arabella 🐯 a rescued tiger who found her forever home.

Bella was born into South Africa’s commercial captive tiger breeding industry.

Just days after birth, she and her brother Aries were separated from their mother and placed into an exploitative cub petting tourism facility, disguised as conservation.

But even in the face of hardship, Arabella’s story would become one of survival.

These earlier photos show Arabella during the beginning of her healing journey at Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary 🧡

A place where she found safety, compassion, and peace. Where she could finally be treated with the dignity and care every wild animal deserves.

Baguira looks so at home, resting in the grass, under open skies.

But this isn’t where her story began.

Baguira’s journey to Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary is one of the most unforgettable the team has ever been part of. Spanning continents, years, and a fight for survival.

What she has overcome is immense. An inspiration in every way.
