Our team spent a few days on the road connecting with students, meeting university staff and hearing what’s really happening on campuses.

From chatting with students about their university experiences to sitting down with staff and joining a student focus group, these conversations help us listen, learn and understand what students need. 🫶🏽

The FREF Postgraduate Bursary is now accepting applications for students looking to take the next step in their academic journey.

The FirstRand Empowerment Foundation (FREF), in partnership with Feenix, is offering funding to eligible students pursuing their first Honours qualification in STEM-related fields or Psychology.

👉 If you completed your undergraduate degree at one of South Africa’s 26 public universities, this opportunity could be for you.

The FREF Postgraduate Bursary supports students from under-resourced communities by providing full tuition and additional support, including accommodation, a monthly travel stipend, a book allowance, food vouchers and access to student support services.

🎓 Eligible study fields include: Actuarial Science, Agricultural Sciences, BA Honours Arts (Psychology), Biosciences, Climate Sciences, Computer Science, Data Science, Electronics, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, Information Management, Information Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Renewable Energy Sciences, Society and Sustainability, and Statistics.

We inherited stories that began long before us. Stories of courage, sacrifice and making a way where there seemed to be none. Stories of communities that understood that when one person moves forward, we all move a little further.

Today, those stories continue in the student who refuses to give up, the family that keeps believing and the South African who reaches across distance, circumstance and difference to say, " Your future matters to me too.”

That is heritage. It is what we remember, celebrate and preserve, but it is also what we choose to carry forward. And if belief in one another is part of what we pass on, imagine what the next chapter of South Africa could hold.
