Change begins when communities come together.
In FY24, more than 910,000 Habitat volunteers worldwide helped build, advocate, and raise awareness about the need for decent shelter.
Here in South Africa, our community spirit shone brightly during this year’s Nelson Mandela Build and Women’s Build events.
During the Mandela Build, 10 homes were initiated across Orange Farm (Gauteng), Khayelitsha (Western Cape), and Joe Slovo (Eastern Cape). Thanks to our partners Teleperformance Global, Henkel and Sanlam each home was supported by at least 15 volunteers per day, resulting in over 750 volunteer shifts!
Through our Women’s Build in KwaZulu-Natal (Umbumbulu) and Gauteng (Orange Farm), two additional homes were built with the support of our financial sector partners Absa South Africa and ooba Each site engaged 15 volunteers per house daily over the five-day build. Each of these efforts directly contributed to stronger, more resilient communities.
As we commemorate , we celebrate every hand that helps build homes, hope, and brighter futures across South Africa. 🏠
