Friends of Table Mountain https://tinyurl.com/yrztuwhk We achieve this by:
Ensuring the appropriate management of TMNP by the assigned management authority.

Friends of Table Mountain is a registered non-profit dedicated to protecting and preserving Table Mountain National Park through lobbying and rehabilitation efforts. Engaging in meaningful and transparent public engagement and consultation, including partnership endeavours. Advocating for safety and security for all recreational mountain users. Ongoing creation and effective maintenance of Table M

ountain trails and infrastructure. Cooperative user and conflict management. Protection of TMNP flora and fauna, including the removal of invasive alien vegetation with our partners. Achieving these objectives will ensure a better recreational experience for visitors & Capetonians alike, improved tourism, job creation and upliftment of disadvantaged communities living around Table Mountain. Through our work, we have helped to restore and rehabilitate Table Mountain trails. We are proud of our accomplishments, but we know that there is still much work to be done. FOTM is fully dependent on donations, and with your support, we can continue to make a difference and take care of our mountain.

Another productive day in Newlands Forest with our trail engineers helping the SANParks rangers with water drainage on the jeep tracks. This is crucial in PREVENTING damaging erosion from the winter rains which then necessitates costly REACTIVE repairs.

- 1x culvert repaired and cleared
- 1x hidden culvert cleared from 2x wheelbarrows worth of silt build up
- 17x water bars cleared up

If you're a frequent user of the MTB trails on TMNP you will have noticed some nice improvements over the last few weeks below the Kings Blockhouse and around Cecilia. A key component of this work is regular well made waterbars and our team have become experts at this. Please give the team a high five if you see them out on the trails. Many thanks to the Mapula Trust for sponsoring this important work.

We had some help from our volunteers with our signage installation on Corridor and Oudekraal this weekend 😀 Great to have these enthusiastic people helping us. We believe good signage is critical in preventing visitors getting lost and potentially getting into serious trouble. We have seen many cases recently where our good friends from have been called out to rescue cold, lost and sometimes precariously situated hikers.

Winter is here and water is a relentless source of hydraulic erosion to trails and jeeptracks. The past 2 weekends our team have been helping unblock drains and clear water bars on the Newlands Forest jeeptracks. In order to prevent damage to these jeeptracks it's super important to do PROACTIVE drain clearing. And it was nice to have 2 of our top supporters & pop by.

We had a fun and very successful volunteer day today on Devils Peak with the Sugarbird Project and SANParks. Some volunteers joined the Sugarbird team to clear those irritating Port Jacksons at the Devils Peak trailhead. The rest of us went down to Plumpudding just above hospital bend to clear up a massive cable thief stash and other rubbish. This is clearly a vagrant / rough sleeper hotspot as a number of old camp structures were removed with all the associated rubbish.

A photo dump of our hard work last week on the little known Upper or 700m Traverse on Devils Peak. As you can see it was heavily overgrown but our team did a fantastic job clearing it for all the hikers and trail runners. This trail makes for a great variation to top out on Devils Peak, so please go check it out. Many thanks to who sponsored this work.

Friends of Table Mountain have been really stoked to work with Wilderness Search & Rescue and the British and German consulates by improving signage in key locations on TMNP. Someone is clearly not happy with our signs and we have had a number of them ripped off. We suspect some local hiker, who knows the mountain well, objects to these signs. However our mountain is used by many visitors who do not know these trails and when they get lost they can find themselves in precarious positions and then our good friends from WSAR need to rescue them (and put themselves in danger). We regularly find lost tourists who need help with directions. A lot of thought, effort and money has gone into this project. Please do not vandalise these signs and report anyone doing so. These damaged signs will need to replaced at the cost of FOTM and our volunteer's precious time.
