Preening and eating! Stapelaar showed immediate interest in food after his Radiographs visit.

Today, looking strong, even used a small opening we left to replace food, he jumped ontop of the enclosure wall, looks like a much faster recovery than enticipated.

9 August on Womans Day lets celebrate some woman in the bird rescue business;
There is a few men in the game, but face it: they have fabulous woman behind them!

Cape Wagtail entanglement

The birdie was grounded:

However this time the ladies scarf is the final entanglement...
Microfibres all around his neck, feet, mouth...
We snipped him loose, but in the end, he sadly didnt survive.

This Hadada ibis named "StapeLaar" as in the strong Afrikaans version of Stapler. (Anglicism)

Liz was again the only car stopping, to help this poor patient. Thank you for getting him urgent medical treatment.

I saw a Hadeda in the road 6th of August around 15:00 standing head flipped back with his family members screaming on the rim of the busy R44 Stellenbosch - close to Schuilplaats rd and R44 Stellenbosch.
When I turned around and pulled over his head was upright and it was apparent he was hit by a car. I easily picked him up and went straight to STRAND Animal Hospital and he was treated by Dr Bruce.

We took Stapelaar for Xrays, to confirm there is no new fractures. A tiny rock in his stomach, and an
Old fracture, showing his wing healed from a previous traumatic event, and now Stapelaar walks away, to recover in the Safety of Tweet Tweet Facility. 1300g at check in.

So thankful for all the lift offers we had as well; keep it up😍

The lil Kestrel arrived.
Danica from Tweet Tweet Rescue and Rehab did a great job stabilising and washing him.
He was found unable to fly in an unsafe warehouse, where they use rat poison.
He was covered in a strong black cleaning chemical.

Luckily he is in good shape, but will need another bath, food and monitoring for a couple of days to eliminate the possibility of toxicity and or poisoning.

Once ready, he will be realeased in a different area, due to the fact that Kestrels are very territorial and we don't want him to end up in the same situation.

Yesterday we received two birds soaked in a chemical.
Unfortunately the Speckled pigeon was DOA soaked in turpentine.
The Rock Kestrel smelled of Jeyes Fluid, and we washed and rinsed him, and placed him in a warm box to dry naturally.
Thank you The Owl Orphanage. Velddrif for guiding us while we stabilised him for transfer to Velddrif.
We left a hidden camera that recorded 38min of him preening his feathers. The video was sped up to 1min.
