YOUTH MONTH BLACKOUT
iKhaya eLitsha Hub has decided to not participate in any youth month/day related celebrations. As youth, we have nothing to celebrate.
Our government has waged a war at all levels against the youth by constantly making it difficult to gain access to opportunities. South Africa’s private sector continues to profit, as per usual, from the misery of the citizens of this country through unethical practice(s) and shows no remorse for their actions. As civil society, we are in disarray and bystanders in allowing the government and private sector to abuse citizens because most of us are beholden to these very same sectors.
The Site C community, where we are based, is suffering tremendously. Young people who are addicted to drugs are terrorizing the community, the South African Police Service obviously does not know what to do while community member suffer from intense anxiety.
The organization will, however, continue with its’ programmatic deliverables. We cannot form part of a long queue of institutions which continue to let the youth down.
So what must the youth celebrate?
