We’re making hygiene lessons a little more fun, using the universal language of football to teach kids why washing their hands matters and how it can help prevent illness.

VIVA CONNECT EVENT RECAP🫂

Last week, Viva Connect brought together researchers, artists, activists, business leaders and community organisers to ask a bigger question: what does water security actually look like in South Africa? The conversation challenged familiar narratives. Water isn't only a climate issue. It's an infrastructure issue. A governance issue. An education issue. And ultimately, a people issue.

As our Partnerships Manager, Nwabisa Mayema, put it: "Partnerships are driven by stories. Stories matter and, as Viva con Agua, we are thrilled to have so many join our story in creating access to safe water for 500,000 South Africans by 2030. Let us stay connected." ✨

If there was one takeaway from the afternoon, it was this: collaboration isn't the headline. It's the practice. The work happens when different disciplines, different sectors and communities choose to stay in conversation.

Water is life, yet across South Africa, many communities still face the reality of deteriorating water sources. At Viva con Agua Cape Town, we believe that lasting solutions are built within the community, not from the outside.

Over the last five years, our collaborative approach has supported 60 schools across the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, and Mpumalanga with integrated water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs. By building local ownership and ongoing maintenance systems, we ensure every project creates a lasting, sustainable ripple effect

Through our projects like WINS, lead by our very own Sivusilye Tembani, Viva con Agua has empowered these schools, students and communities through water, leading to pivotal changes to hygiene and sanitation that allow people to prosper.

Behind the scenes at CapeTalk Studios! 🎙️

Real change happens when community heart meets dedicated action. We took the Nina Manzi story to the airwaves, sharing how we are working together to restore dignity through water, sanitation, and hygiene.

A massive thank you to CapeTalk presenter Saskia Falken for opening up the space, and to the incredible "Aunty Raalie" Sheradia Brown-a community pillar who does vital work supporting and uplifting the homeless.
