What a Bokke night at Meeting 867! 🇿🇦🏉

Last night Cape Town Toastmasters packed the Chairman’s View Room at WPCC and the theme Bokke did exactly what our Word of the Day asked of us — it resonated.

Huge thanks to Toastmaster of the Evening Jason Scott for holding the room, President Shukri Wiener for the welcome and Loyal Toast, and Sergeant at Arms Reggie Davidson for calling us to order.

🎤 Prepared speeches that landed:

• Snothando Ntshembeni — The Invisible Clock
• Lorraine Mashau — Failure – the fear thereof
• Reggie Davidson — Are you trying to interview me?
• Dawn Corin — IF ONLY YOU WOULD CHANGE

A special welcome to guest speaker Andy Liu — thank you for sharing your voice with Club 2249.

Evaluations that made everyone better:
Shukri Wiener, Donovan Will, Chris Adlam, Deidre Lewis — gold-standard feedback.

Then Jason threw open Table Topics with Let the Fun Begin and the room did what this club always does: stepped up, laughed, and grew.

Functionary legends of the night:

⏱️ Timer Lizo Ncapai
💬 Ah Counter Kerri-Lea Adlam
📚 Grammarian John Hambleton — resonate was everywhere, and it showed.

This is what Toastmasters looks like in Cape Town: courage on the stage, kindness in the feedback, and a community that cheers for your next speech as loudly as your last.

📍 Next meeting: Wednesday 23 September 2026
⏰ Arrive from 18:30, we start at 19:00
📌 Chairman’s View Room, Western Province Cricket Club

Guests are welcome. No pressure to speak. Just come and have fun.

Home club of Toastmasters International President Aletta Rochat, DTM.

Tag yourself if you were there. Tag a friend who should be in that chair next time. 💚

Empowered women. Empowered voices. An empowered nation. ✨🇿🇦

Last night Cape Town Toastmasters lit up the Chairman’s View Room at WPCC for Meeting 866, under the theme Empowered Women Empower The Nation.

What a night of courage, craft, and connection.

🎤 Prepared speeches

• Kerri-Lea Adlam — The Easy Way
• Robert Rouessart — Sound Waves to Brain Waves
• Nkosibonile Mkwibiso (Tableview Toastmasters) — The Beam of Hope
• Wayne Robinson — The Mirror at the Funeral

A special welcome to Nkosibonile from Tableview — when clubs share the stage, everyone grows. 🤝

📚 Donovan Will took us through Getting Ready for Your First Evaluation — practical, generous, and exactly what new evaluators need.

🗣️ Michelle Tobias then threw open Table Topics with Let the Fun Begin — and the room delivered.

Thank you to Toastmaster of the Evening Deidre Lewis, our functionaries, evaluators (Bessie Zastrau, Gottfried Schittek, Chris Adlam, Alex Agaba), and every member and guest who showed up and spoke

📅 Next meeting: Wednesday 9 September 2026, 19:00
📍 Chairman’s View Room, Western Province Cricket Club

Guests are welcome. No pressure to speak. Just come and have fun.

What a night of connection, growth and pure Toastmasters magic!

Another successful Exchange Programme meeting with Cape Town Toastmasters, Pinelands and Tableview clubs. Speakers and evaluators swapped clubs, shared stages, and lifted each other up — exactly the kind of cross-pollination that makes our community stronger.

This beautiful idea was born after last year’s Heritage Day celebration honouring the first-ever Toastmasters International President, and was championed by Chris Adlam and Verity Price (South Africa’s first World Champion of Public Speaking). Our three club presidents turned the vision into a monthly tradition, and we’re loving every minute of it.

Huge congratulations to Reggie Davidson for taking home Best Speaker of the night! Your speech was powerful, polished and unforgettable.

Here’s to more shared stages, fresh feedback, and friendships across clubs. Who’s ready for the next exchange?

Almost a year ago, Aletta Rochat was announced as the first person from Africa to serve as Toastmasters International President. Thanks to Devin Pearson for this photo of Aletta taken at Toastmasters International Convention in Vancouver.

We remain deeply proud of her achievement and the quiet strength she continues to bring to the role.

But pride alone is not enough.

This year, Cape Town Toastmasters is asking a simple question:

How will we make a real difference in our community, and how will we share the life-changing benefits of Toastmasters more widely?

Our focus is clear.

We will take Toastmasters into the spaces where confidence, communication and leadership are most needed. Like corporate teams, universities, community groups and professional networks.

We will amplify authentic member stories, because people join a transformation they can see in someone like them.

We will strengthen the bridge from guest to member, so every person who experiences our meetings leaves knowing how this journey can change their life.

And we will continue to grow African leadership, leaders who serve their communities and the continent with purpose.

Toastmasters changes lives. This year, we are committed to making sure more people know it, experience it, and benefit from it.

Join us.

🌸 Happy National Women’s Day from Cape Town Toastmasters! 🌸

Today we celebrate the incredible women in our club who show up, speak up, and lift others up — every single meeting.

To our women members:

Your voices inspire.
Your courage encourages.
Your leadership lights the way.
From the stage to the evaluation seat, from Table Topics to Toastmaster of the evening — you make Cape Town Toastmasters stronger, warmer, and more powerful.

Special love to every woman who has found her voice (or is still finding it) in our club. You are seen. You are valued. You are celebrated.
Here’s to the women who lead with heart, speak with impact, and grow with grace. 💜

05/08/2026

International President Aletta Rochat, DTM and long standing member of Cape Town Toastmasters attended the hall of fame. A celebration of leadership and growth.

02/08/2026

Dawn Corin did Cape Town Toastmasters pride at Table View Toastmasters last week.

Our clubs are amazing… but the real growth happens when we connect beyond them.
Visiting other clubs, joining joint events, and sharing ideas gives us:

✨ Fresh meeting ideas & evaluation styles
✨ New perspectives that accelerate our growth
✨ Wider networks and lasting friendships
✨ Stronger local Toastmasters communities
✨ Clearer pathways into leadership roles

When clubs support each other, everyone wins.

Next time you see an invite from another club or an area event—say yes!

Let’s keep pollinating. The whole garden grows stronger when we do. 🐝
