Treatment Action Group (TAG) is proud to present β€œWhat TB Treatment advocates need to Know about active TB Drug Safety Monitoring and Management and Pharmacovigilance (aDSM/PV)” on Tuesday, April 16 at 8:30 a.m. EST on Zoom.

In recent years, a new generation of shorter, all-oral, and effective medicines for drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) has been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

These alternative regimens, which are referred to as BPaL/M, BEAT, and endTB, are shorter and easier on patients than previous drug regimens that include multiple drugs with harsh side effects. However, newer forms of care require close attention to adverse side effects and harmful responses – also known as pharmacovigilance.

Today we join the global community to reflect, remember, and renew our commitment to ending HIV/AIDS.

Since 1988, World AIDS Day has raised awareness, fought stigma, and promoted education. In South Africa, TASK has been advancing healthcare through ethical clinical trials, partnering with sponsors and institutions to make a real impact.

Today, we honor the resilience of individuals and communities affected by HIV and the researchers and healthcare professionals driving progress.

Behind every successful trial is a strong connection with the community it serves. At TASK, we believe community engagement is not just a recruitment tool, it’s a foundation for ethical, impactful research.

Our model focuses on:

- Engaging early with local stakeholders to build trust before recruitment begins
- Communicating in culturally relevant ways so information is understood and respected
- Building long-term relationships that continue after the trial ends
- Recognising and valuing community contributions to advancing science

This approach improves recruitment and retention, strengthens data quality, and creates lasting partnerships that benefit both research and society.

Cardiovascular disease claims nearly 18 million lives each year, making it the leading cause of death globally. On World Heart Day, TASK reflects on the power of high-quality research to change these statistics.

From prevention studies to advanced therapeutic trials, our cardiovascular research is designed to generate credible, ethically conducted data that can shape the future of heart health. Our approach includes:

- Recruiting diverse participants to ensure findings are widely applicable
- Embedding rigorous safety measures into every protocol
- Collaborating with leading experts and research networks worldwide

Every study brings us closer to better prevention, more effective treatments, and healthier communities worldwide.
