No one eliminates hepatitis C alone.

Progress is only possible because of the thousands of people across the world who show up every day to make a difference.

Researchers.

Clinicians.

Nurses.

Peer workers.

Policymakers.

Community organisations.

People with lived and living experience.

Advocates.

Programme managers.

Pharmacists.

And so many others.

This World Hepatitis Day World Hepatitis Alliance, we're celebrating everyone across the INHSU network and beyond who is playing their part in moving us closer to hepatitis C elimination.

From war zones to women's health, stimulant use to HIV prevention, this year's plenaries bring together some of the most important conversations in drug user health.

โ€ข Tetiana Deshko โ€“ Adapting Harm Reduction and Infectious Disease Models of Care in Conflict Settings

โ€ข Nadine Ezard โ€“ Interventions for Stimulant Use: Clinical and Public Health Interventions

โ€ข Anna Maria Ekstrรถm Karolinska Institutet โ€“ Understanding Drug Use Among Women: Epidemiology and Syndemics of Trauma, Mental Health, Gender-based Violence, and Infection

โ€ข Monica Gandhi โ€“ HIV Treatment and Prevention for People Who Use Drugs: Clinical Advances and Implementation Science

โ€ข Annie Madden AO โ€“ Beyond Participation: Leadership of People Who Use Drugs in Research and Evidence Generation.

Each year, INHSU's plenary and invited speakers are selected through a multi-stage program development process involving our Program Advisory Committee, conference committees and Conference Executive Committee. Priority topics are identified first, followed by speaker recommendations and voting based on expertise and fit.

This year, that process has led to something worth celebrating. It reflects the extraordinary expertise, leadership and innovation women are bringing to some of the biggest conversations in drug user health today.

Although the main conference begins on Wednesday, 7 October, the conversations start much earlier - with our pre-conference event program.

On Monday and Tuesday, we're hosting a series of pre-conference events designed for different parts of our community. Whether you're an early- or mid-career researcher, nurse, community member, policymaker, or someone interested in prison health, these events provide an opportunity to connect with peers, explore challenges in greater depth, and build relationships before the main conference begins.

This year's pre-conference program includes:

โ€ข Policy Day
โ€ข Prison Health in Action: Scaling Up Hepatitis C Prevention, Testing and Treatment in Carceral Settings
โ€ข Community Day
โ€ข Early-Mid-Career Researcher Workshop
โ€ข EMCR & Nurses Workshop
โ€ข Early-Mid-Career Researcher, Nurses and Community Networking Event

Harm reduction and evidence-based drug policy are increasingly being shaped by changing political landscapes. As populism grows in many countries, how do we continue to advocate for policies grounded in evidence, human rights and public health?

Chaired by Michel Kazatchkine (Global Commission on Drug Policy), this panel brings together case studies from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Colombia and Canada, exploring how different countries are responding to political pressures while continuing to advance harm reduction and rational drug policy.

Overdose trends are changing rapidly, but they are not changing in the same way everywhere. Understanding those differences is critical to developing responses that reflect local drug markets, health systems and community needs.

This session brings together perspectives from across Europe and North America:

โ€ข Thomas Clausen (European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) will examine emerging overdose trends across Europe

โ€ข Dan Ciccarone (University of California) will explore the evolving overdose crisis in North America

โ€ข Magdalena Bartnik (PREKURSOR Foundation) will share insights into overdose responses in Poland and across Eastern Europe

Together, they will examine how overdose risks are evolving across different regions, what responses are being implemented, and what we can learn from approaches developed in different contexts.

Early bird registration closes in four days. Weโ€™d love to see you in Prague.

Improving health outcomes for people who use drugs requires more than one solution. It means addressing immediate health needs while continuing to innovate for the future. This session brings together three internationally recognised experts tackling different parts of that challenge:

โ€ข Thomas Brothers (Dalhousie University, Canada) on the clinical management of injecting-related injuries and infections

โ€ข Gregory Dore (Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney) on what is working in hepatitis C elimination, and the innovations that could help us reach the finish line

โ€ข Nittaya Phanuphak (Institute of HIV Research and Innovation, Thailand) on strategies to support integrated responses to infectious diseases.

Around the world, harm reduction services are increasingly being delivered in the context of war, political repression, displacement and humanitarian crises. Yet communities continue to adapt, innovate and find ways to reach people who need care.

In this session, Alla Bessonova (Eurasian Women's Network on AIDS)
Marina Chokheli (Innovations For Change) and Vitali Rabinciuc (Eurasian Network of People who Use Drugs) will share firsthand experiences from the frontline, exploring what it takes to sustain harm reduction under extraordinary pressure and what the global community can learn from these responses.

That's the message from Galya Walt, one of our inaugural INHSU U.S. Fellowship recipients.

As a PhD student at Brown University School of Public Health, Galya is exploring how research and healthcare systems can better support women through pregnancy and parenting - shifting the focus from surveillance to support.
