A Powerful Beginning

Yesterday we launched the Music Over Mind School Engagement Programme at in Grassy Park. It was a day filled with music and connection, as learners engaged with the message that their wellbeing matters and their voices deserve to be heard.

From the high energy exciting young artists (and dancers) and to the installation of the Kind Heart Bench, the launch marked the beginning of a programme designed to create safe spaces, mentorship and creative expression for young people.

We are grateful to our partners — Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropies, , , music director and our fabulous ambassador — for helping make this initiative possible!

This is just the beginning. Together we are building pathways where music becomes a bridge to confidence, belonging and hope.

The Kind Heart Bench

A place to pause. A place to talk. A place to be heard.

At a school in Cape Town, a bright yellow Kind Heart Bench will soon stand as a visible reminder that no learner has to face challenges alone.

Installed in partnership with the Kind Heart Bench Project, it creates a welcoming space where young people can connect, speak and seek support.

Sometimes the most powerful step toward healing is simply knowing someone will listen.

Peer Support

Young people often notice when something is wrong before adults do.

That’s why the programme includes a Peer Mentor initiative, training learners to recognise when friends may be struggling and guide them toward help.

Together we are building school communities where care, empathy and support are part of everyday life.

Launching in 3 days.

Why Music Matters

Music is more than performance.

For many young people it becomes:
* a way to express emotions
* a path to confidence
* a space for belonging
* a positive alternative after school

The Music Over Mind programme uses music to support emotional wellbeing and help young people imagine new possibilities for their future.

Launching 17 March at a school in Cape Town.

Introducing the Programme - Music, Hope and Healing

In 5 days, the KEYJ Foundation will launch the Music Over Mind School Engagement Programme at a Secondary School in the Cape Flats area.

This initiative brings together music, mentorship and mental health awareness to support young people growing up in communities where opportunity pathways are often constrained.

Through music, learners can find confidence, connection and belonging.
Stay tuned as we count down to launch day.
