Noluthando Sheltered Employment Trust NSET is a life and work skills training project. Here are some of their key programs:
1. o Offers respite care to families and caregivers.

The project aims to develop persons who are differently abled to achieve their potential for work and employment in Cape Town and surrounding areas.

​ The Noluthando Sheltered Employment Trust (NSET) offers a range of vocational training programs for differently abled individuals (Young Autistic School-leavers) in Cape Town and surrounding areas. Skills Training Program:
o Provides vocational tra

ining in various fields, such as:
 Craftsmanship: Including woodworking, pottery, and textile arts.
 Culinary Skills: Basic cooking and baking techniques.
 Gardening and Horticulture: Cultivating plants and maintaining green spaces.
 Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills. o Trainees gain practical skills to function effectively in the open labor market.
2. Life Skills Training:
o Focuses on essential life skills, including:
 Communication: Verbal and non-verbal communication.
 Personal Hygiene: Self-care routines.
 Time Management: Organizing tasks and schedules.
 Problem-Solving: Critical thinking and decision-making.
3. Respite Care and Stimulation:
o NSET provides a safe and supportive environment for trainees. o Stimulation activities enhance cognitive and sensory abilities.
4. Unique Developmental Model:
o NSET’s model progresses trainees from one level to another. o Prepares higher-functioning trainees for employment. o Creates exit opportunities in the economy. Additionally, NSET collaborates with the Roots and Raw / Sprightly Seed / SEED / UWC / ForGood/ Anova Health Institute/ Given Gain / Amy Foundation / Astra House / Oasis Protective Workshops. This collaboration empowers beneficiaries by creating employment opportunities through skilfully crafted soap and candle products1

Teacher Ruby led a wonderful session with the school leavers and 5 of our beneficiaries on Monday.

Using a basic pancake recipe, Teacher Ruby introduced the group to ingredients, equipment and various techniques while communicating in English, Xhosa and with Makaton.

She found a fun way for the group to collect everything needed to make the pancakes, with a reward for each item collected.🍭

This week, it was Mike's turn to plan a session for our school leavers programme.

The learners and beneficiaries prepared the soil by sifting sand and mixing it with compost before making a new bed for our cauliflower seedlings.

They were then taught to space, plant and water the seedlings.

Well done Mike, it was a great session and thank you Teacher Ntombi for your support.

Last week we celebrated Nceba's birthday. Teacher Ruby and the baking group, baked a beautiful chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting and chocolate muffins.

Teacher Andrea's group tried out a few new chocolate decorating techniques, using white and milk chocolate.
