What a debut, Cape Town!

Saturday, 15 August, we set up at Flagstone Winery for the Indie Authors Rise Up Festival, and it did not disappoint. The Sister K Publishers stand was buzzing all day; we met amazing people and made connections we know will bear fruit for a long time to come.

And then came 15h00. Our very own Mncedisi Mdingi sat down with Tessa from Cape Talk on the Memoir Panel and absolutely wowed the room.

He shared his story with such honesty and grace, reminding us exactly why we do what we do.

Now it's round two!

EMPOWERMENT IN ACTION AWARDS 2026 | Legacy in Action

Some legacies are built loudly. Others are built in the quiet, faithful, everyday moments — a mother who kept praying, a mentor who kept showing up, a teacher who saw a girl’s worth before she saw it herself. These are the women shaping the next generation, one act of love at a time.

This year, the Sister K Foundation is honouring exactly these women – through three categories that capture the many faces of legacy.

We’re gathering to honour purpose, celebrate impact, and pass on legacy through powerful voices like our host Sister K, poet Lady Mwatsi, speaker Juliah, and musician Latoya.

Come join us as we honour women impacting the next generation.

Meet the Businesses at the Awards!

Joining our showcase are two tables close to Sister K's own heart: Sister K Bookstore and Sister K Publishers.

At the Sister K Bookstore, you will find the full collection written by Keletso Yende (Sister K) herself. From The Fertility Series, journeying through loss, healing, and restoration, to the Personal Development Series, offering tools for spiritual and personal growth, and Prayer Gardens, a devotional compiled for women shaping the next generation.

Each book was born from lived experience and written to walk beside you through your own season, whatever it may be. Come browse, come be ministered to, and take a piece of the journey home with you.

Right alongside it, the Sister K Publishers table is where the conversation turns to you and your story. If you have ever sensed that your testimony, your wisdom, or your voice was meant to become a book, this is your table. Sister K Publishers will be sharing all you need to know about building a legacy in writing and becoming a self-published author, from finding your message to holding your finished book in your hands.

Come with intention. Whether it is a book that speaks healing over you or the courage to finally write your own, these two tables are waiting to meet you.

Over 30 years of service, a heart for children, and a life built on integrity — meet one of the women who will help us choose our 2026 winners!

We are honoured to introduce Amanda Sickle as a judge for the Empowerment in Action Awards 2026. Amanda is a research operations and governance professional with more than 30 years of service at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), where she serves as Office Manager to the Chief Research Operations Officer. Her work is marked by ethical judgement, discretion, and a deep understanding of fairness and accountability — exactly the qualities we want at the judging table.

But Amanda's heart beats far beyond the boardroom. She is the Chairperson of a children's home and place of safety, the founder of The Reading Room, a non-profit improving literacy for learners, and an award-winning children's author. She recently returned from Cambodia, where she volunteered teaching English to a local community. Her life is a testimony of paying it forward.

We are so grateful to have her wisdom, integrity, and heart of service on our panel. Welcome, Amanda!

Legacy is not built in a single moment. It is built in the moments nobody was watching.

It is built in a mother who kept showing up. A mentor who kept believing. A teacher who kept praying over a girl nobody else noticed.

Ten women have been doing exactly this, and it is time we honour it out loud.
We are honoured to introduce the nominees for the Empowerment in Action Awards 2026: Legacy in Action.

THE GUIDING LIGHT AWARD
- Kady Stoffels
- Noncedo Ralijeje
- Koleka Elijah

THE COMMUNITY HEART AWARD
- Prof Khabiso Ramphoma
- Berenice Blaauw
- Noluthando Heidi Ngumbela
- Celesté Petersen

THE PURPOSE BUILDER AWARD
- Shafieka Hugo
- Daylene Segall
- Owona Madlingozi

Each of these women is being honoured not just for what she has done, but for whom she has helped a girl become. And every winner will walk away with an empowering package designed to increase her impact.

Join us as we celebrate them.
