Sithande Nyangiwe is the Dubez Chess Club's best performer in The Manyanani Chess Festival: Dr Shabier Bhawooden Memorial Development. ♟️🔥

He ended up in 2nd position in the High School section, with 5/6 points and a performance rating of 1636.

He went 5 games unbeaten, eyeing to be on 1st place. In the final round, he was paired with Nizibone and had already won 5 rounds as well, and 4 of those wins were against Sithande's teammates.

Unfortunately, Sithande became the 5th player of Dubez Chess Club to be beaten by Nizibone Xabadiya.

Well done, Sithande. 👏🏿✨️

🏆 Congratulations to Asemahle Skeyi, who secured 1st place, and Sithande Nyangiwe, who finished in 2nd place, in the High School Section!

Both players scored an impressive 5/6 points, proudly representing Dubez Chess Club! 👏🏽♟️

🥇 More prizes are coming home to Dunoon! And this time, we're celebrating a special milestone: Dunoon has finally brought home a 1st-place prize! 🔥🏆

10 Players registered including 1 new player, 11 year old Khayone Bheziyana, from Sophakama Primary School who will be playing her first Chess SA rated tournament as a Dubez Chess Club Player. 🔥

🏆 Final Results:

♟️ Inam Pakati — 5/6
♟️ Asemahle Skeyi — 4/6
♟️ Thubalakhe Matomela — 4/6
♟️ Aphakama Sondlo — 3/6

Total Points: 21/30
Win Rate: 70%
Position: 4th amongst Libraries

🔥 New records have been set by the Dunoon Library 2026 team:

♟️21/30 points with 70% win rate, beating last year's 10/20 wins with 50% win rate.

♟️Final Library rank: 4th position

♟️Most wins: Sithande Nyangiwe and Inam Pakati 5/6.

♟️Every player has at least 50% win rate.
This year’s goal was simple: double last year’s points.

Special mention to Inam Pakati and Sithande Nyangiwe, who each lost only 1 game throughout the championship.

Sithande’s only loss came on time despite having a very winning position, what a tough moment, but also a valuable lesson.
Chess teaches us that having the better position is not enough; you still have to manage the clock and finish the game. ⏱️♟️

This was a great experience for the entire team, and another step forward for chess in Dunoon.

2026 GOAL: Double last year’s points. ✅

2027 GOAL: WIN CHESS@LIBRARIES 2027 AND BRING THAT TROPHY TO DUNOON! 🏆♟️

Five Dubez Chess Club players will proudly represent Dunoon Library in the battle among Cape Town Libraries. ♟️🏆

Inam Pakati, Thubalakhe Matomela, Asemahle Skeyi, and Aphakama Sondlo have already made their mark in previous Chess SA-rated tournaments, securing Top 3 finishes.

Now, they return to the board ready for another challenge. 🔥

Inam Pakati is the Dubez Chess Club's best performer in The Nautilus Chess Tournament with a performance rating of 1499.

He went 5 games unbeaten and was at position 1, until he slipped to 3rd place after losing against Gregory Young.

Next time we shall remain on 1st position till the end. Congratulations, Inam Pakati, for an amazing continuous performance. 🙌🏿🔥

The Nautilus Chess Tournament ♟️🔥

Another tournament, and yet again, we went back to Dunoon with prizes. 🔥

Under 10:
Thubalakhe Matomela finished in 3rd place with 4/6 points. He came back home with 3rd place in the under 10 medal.

Under 14:
Inam Pakati finished in 3rd place with 4.5/6 points. Once again in Round 5 he was in 1st position, hoping to win the last round in order to finish in 1st place and win the tournament, but unfortunately, his first loss in this tournament snatched away the dream to finish in 1st position.

Aphakama Sondlo finished in 5th Place with 4/6 points.

Amazing perfomance from Dubez Chess Club, we are looking forward to another tournament. ♟️✨️
