We are super excited to play in our second Chess SA-rated tournament of the month: The Junior Masters Series — Edition 01, 2026, organised by Table View Chess Club. ♟️🔥

As always, we’re showing up in numbers. 11 of our players will be participating, and for 3 of our new players, this will be their first-ever Chess SA-rated tournament. 🥹✨

Aphakama (Mizo) Sondlo is the Dubez Chess Club's best performer in African Chess Academy Invitational 2026 with a perfomance rating of 1577.

He lost the first round and went unbeaten in 5 consecutive rounds.

He tied with (4.5/6 points) with positioned 4-8 players, and he finished in 9th.

His best win was against a 1556 rated player in the final round and went to draw with 1496 rated player in the second last round.

African Chess Academy Invitational 2026 ♟️✨️

Congratulations to Asemahle Skeyi for finishing in 2nd place with 4/6 points, recording 3 wins and 2 draws, and achieving a 1475 performance rating in the combined U16 & U18 Section. 🔥👏🏿

Asemahle becomes the first Dubez Chess Club player to finish 2nd in a Chess SA-rated tournament. Last month, Inam Pakati became the first player from the club to finish in 3rd place at a Chess SA-rated tournament.

We shall see what God has prepared for us in our upcoming Chess SA-rated tournaments. 🙌🏿✨️

Congratulations to Asemahle Skeyi for winning the July Monthly Tournament with a perfect score of 5/5 points! 🏆✨

She becomes the first player in the club to win three monthly tournaments, followed by Sithande Nyangiwe, who has won two. What an incredible achievement! 👏🏿♟️

Dunoon Library Winter Holiday Program 2026 ♟️✨

WINNERS:

🥇 1st Place: Sithande Nyangiwe — 6.5/7 pts
🥈 2nd Place + 1st Best Junior: Inam Phakathi — 6/7 pts
🥉 3rd Place + Best Female: Asemahle Skeyi — 5.5/7 pts
🏅 2nd Best Junior: Ayabukwa Sondlo — 4/7 pts
🏅 3rd Best Junior: Inathi Masola — 3/7 pts

A big congratulations to Sithande Nyangiwe for winning the tournament with an impressive 6.5/7 points. His only draw came by repetition against Asemahle Skeyi in a game that was not really in his favour, but the draw he secured gave him hope and kept him in the race.

From there, Sithande had to secure a crucial win against Inam Phakathi, who went on to finish in 2nd place and also claim the 1st Best Junior award.

Well done to all the winners and every player who participated. Dunoon chess continues to grow, and the players keep showing more hunger, confidence, and fighting spirit. ♟️🔥

Asemahle Skeyi — 5th Place

Willmore Pietersen (1545) and Nathan Amsterdam (1713) decided to withdraw from the tournament standings after the final round, giving Dunoon players an opportunity to shine in their own community tournament.

Both players finished with 4 wins and drew their final-round game after being paired against each other.

Great sportsmanship from Mr Pietersen and Mr Amsterdam. 🙌♟️✨️
