*DRINGEND....

Elke bietjie help.

Wags and Waves – Beach Days for Homeless Dogs

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter is excited to announce a new community initiative called Wags and Waves – monthly beach days for shelter dogs.

Once a month, the organisation will take their homeless dogs to a dog-friendly beach across Cape Town and invite members of the public to join them for a morning of walking, playing with and socialising dogs in need of loving homes.

“The events are very beneficial for the dogs as it allows them time out of their shelter kennels and good stimulation. They also get more human contact which helps them feel loved,” says Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising and Communications Executive.

Beyond the benefits to the dogs, Wags and Waves also aims to support people. Many individuals experience loneliness or are unable to own pets due to living circumstances. This initiative offers them the opportunity to connect with a shelter dog and experience the joy of unconditional love, even if just for a few hours.

The next beach day will take place on Saturday, 28 February, at Fish Hoek Beach from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This will be followed by another event on 21 March at Milnerton Beach, at the same time.

“We would like to invite all dog lovers to join us for a fun morning out to make a difference in the lives of our shelter dogs,” says du Plessis.

To find out more, contact [email protected].

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter is celebrating 30 years of serving the animals of Khayelitsha. Through veterinary healthcare, sterilisations, mobile clinics, an animal ambulance and pet adoptions, the organisation serves approximately 1 500 animals per month. Mdzananda also has a strong focus on community inclusion, empowerment and education.

Vriendelike groete,
Anton Kleyn President, The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club. 071 634 0780 (Michelle Jenkins – Liefdadigheidsko?rdineerder) https://wildbuggers.co.za/next-event/

Khayelitsha Animal Shelter Urgently Calls on Public to Adopt

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter in Khayelitsha is urgently appealing to the public to open their homes and adopt a dog or cat, as the small shelter has reached full capacity and can no longer safely accommodate more animals.

The shelter is currently caring for 34 dogs, 15 cats and 17 kittens, despite only being able to comfortably house 30 dogs and 20 cats.

“We are urgently asking the public to adopt. We have no more space and animals keep being surrendered. We do our best to refer people to other organisations, but there is no guarantee that animals will actually get there, and we worry deeply for their safety,” says Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising and Communications Executive at Mdzananda.

The organisation has formed emergency partnerships with other shelters including HART, Animal Welfare Society Helderberg and DARG, who have taken some animals into their care.

“We are extremely grateful for these partnerships, but even with their support, we simply cannot keep up with the demand. The only long-term solution is for people to step forward and offer these animals loving, permanent homes,” says du Plessis.

Mdzananda is primarily an animal hospital, serving an average of 1,500 pets per month through consultations, hospitalisation, mobile clinics and an animal ambulance service. The shelter was only added a few years ago in response to rising community need.

“Wherever possible, we try to help community members keep their animals. For example, we’ve built fences around people’s yards so that dogs can stay safely at home instead of being surrendered out of fear of accidents,” says du Plessis.

However, with increasing financial strain and ongoing surrenders, the shelter is now forced to turn people away.

“As the only animal shelter in the vast community of Khayelitsha, this is heartbreaking. We never want to say no, but right now we simply have nowhere to put more animals,” she adds.

Members of the public who can assist by adopting are urged to get in touch.

– Homeless pets offering love

February is the month of love and at the Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter in Khayelitsha, it’s also the month of second chances. This Valentine’s Day, the organisation is playing matchmaker for its most eligible four-legged bachelors and bachelorettes – rescued dogs and cats patiently waiting for their happily ever after.

With many animals spending weeks, and even months, at the shelter, Valentine’s Day can be a lonely time. Mdzananda is inviting the public to open their hearts by sponsoring a rescue animal for a love-filled day, providing much-needed care while they wait for a forever home.

“Instead of chocolates or flowers that fade, a sponsorship gift creates real, lasting impact,” says Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising and Communications Executive. “Each sponsorship helps cover food, shelter, medical care, and comfort for animals who have already been through so much.”

The campaign encourages animal lovers to this February by choosing a sponsorship option that suits their budget:
* R50 – Flea and tick treatment for itch-free cuddles
* R100 – Essential vaccinations to keep a Valentine healthy
* R300 – Two weeks of nutritious meals
* R500 – A full month of care, comfort, and shelter
* R600 – Wholesome meals for an entire month
* R650 – Spaying or neutering, supporting responsible love and care

To participate, donors simply select a bachelor or bachelorette visible on www.mdzananda.co.za, choose a gift, and make a donation to Mdzananda Animal Clinic, Nedbank, Current Account, Branch Code: 198765, Account Number: 1314465147, Reference: YourValentinesName + YourName.

All sponsored animals are also available for adoption. Those ready to can enquire about adoption by contacting [email protected].
Supporters can also make the day extra special by sponsoring a rescue animal in their loved one’s name. Mdzananda will send a custom, heartfelt e-card to the recipient, sharing the love and the impact of the gift. To arrange an e-card sponsorship, email [email protected] by 4pm on Friday, 13 February.

“This Valentine’s Day, love doesn’t have to be complicated - sometimes, it just has four paws and a second chance,” says du Plessis.

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter has been serving the Khayelitsha pets for the last 30 years through consultations, hospitalisation, operations, sterilisations, mobile clinics, an animal ambulance and homeless pet shelter. There is a strong focus on education and empowerment of pet owners in the community.
