The AITF Congratulates the Matric Class of 2025!

We salute every learner who crossed the finish line of their Matric journey in 2025. This milestone is more than a certificate, it is proof of resilience, discipline and belief in your potential.

Celebrating a Major Milestone in South Africa’s Automotive Value Chain

A proud moment for the Automotive Industry Transformation Fund (AITF) as we celebrate the unveiling of VSL Manufacturing’s new R750 million, purpose-built facility in Gqeberha – a big win for localisation, black industrialisation and South Africa’s automotive supply chain.

VSL Manufacturing – a 51% African female–owned business – has shown remarkable resilience since 2018 after the liquidation of Stateline Pressed Metal. Today, they stand as a shining example of how targeted investment and public-private collaboration can secure jobs, build new capability and strengthen local manufacturing.

Through partnership with , and support from the , AITF, BIS and .SouthAfrica, VSL has commissioned a world-class facility strategically located next to ISUZU’s assembly plant.

- This boosts production efficiency
- Reduces logistics costs
- And has already created 52 new jobs in Gqeberha while sustaining 66 jobs in Komani.

AITF CEO, Jabulani Selumane, reflects on this milestone:

“We congratulate VSL Manufacturing on the completion of their new facility and we are pleased to have contributed towards the project. When we say 30% of the AITF’s funding is ringfenced for women-owned businesses, VSL is one of the beneficiaries that demonstrates this commitment in action. This milestone is a testament to our dedication to transforming the automotive value chain. We wish Vuyo and the entire VSL team all the best for the future.”

Driving Transformation. Enabling Competitiveness. Powering Industrial Growth.

The AITF remains committed to advancing localisation, supplier competitiveness and meaningful transformation in alignment with SAAM2035.

Congratulations to Vuyo Skweyiya, Deon van Zyl and the entire VSL Manufacturing team!

As we commemorate Nelson Mandela’s legacy today, we are reminded that “…It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequality...”

At the Automotive Industry Transformation Fund (AITF), this message is not just a theme – it’s a mandate we live by every day.

Founded in 2020 as a collective Equity Equivalent Investment Programme (EEIP) by seven leading OEMs – , , , , and – the AITF continues to drive inclusive and broad-based economic participation in South Africa’s automotive industry.

On this Mandela Day, we reflect with pride on the strides we’ve made as a transformation agent:

• Over R600 million invested in more than 70 black-owned businesses
• Over 30% of funding directed to women-owned enterprises
• 2,719 jobs created and retained since inception
• Local content maintained at ~40%
• 7% contribution by black industrialists to sector Gross Value Addition (GVA) – with a clear path to the SA Automotive Masterplan (SAAM) 2035 target of 25%

Looking ahead, between 2025 and 2029, we aim to invest an additional R1 billion, supporting more than 90 black-owned enterprises and strengthening Tier 2 and Tier 3 supplier participation. We’ve expanded our reach to include component manufacturers through the APDP2 Transformation Fund – providing an essential compliance avenue within the Automotive Production and Development Programme (APDP 2).

At the AITF, we remain steadfast in our commitment to building a more inclusive, equitable and transformative automotive ecosystem – because the fight against poverty and inequality continues, and the future is still in our hands!
