A Message from Rise Up Organisation ❤️🏳️‍🌈

We have seen the recent statements by Pastor Oscar Bougardt calling for a “queer-free Cape Town.”

As Rise Up Organisation, we feel it is important to speak — not to attack Pastor Bougardt personally, and not to tell anyone what they must believe, but to make our position clear.

Cape Town belongs to all of us.

But honestly, can we stop for a moment and ask ourselves: is this really where our energy needs to go?

Are we genuinely going to spend our time fighting over whether LGBTQIA+ people belong in Cape Town, while children are growing up in communities where they don't feel safe?

Where are the conversations about safer streets?
Where are the conversations about children being able to walk home safely?
Where are the conversations about families struggling, young people without opportunities, homelessness, drugs, crime and communities that desperately need support?

At Rise Up Organisation, we believe these are the battles worth fighting.

We also know there is real work to be done within our own communities to challenge the stigma and prejudice that LGBTQIA+ people still face.

Our LGBTI department, headed by Nelly Legrande continues to do this work every day — standing up for our people, challenging stereotypes and helping create a community where being gay is not something anyone should be ashamed of or afraid to talk about.

Nelly gives his time and energy to this work because he believes that changing attitudes starts with education, visibility and showing people that LGBTQIA+ people are not something to fear or hate.

They are our friends.
Our family.
Our neighbours.
Our community.

We can disagree about religion. We can disagree about sexuality. We can have different beliefs and values.

But surely we can agree on one thing: our children deserve safe streets, safe communities and a future they can actually look forward to.

LGBTQIA+ people are part of Cape Town. We are not going anywhere, and we should not h

"We're not asking for much. Just enough to fill one more bowl." 🥣

❤️ It starts with one bowl. One act of kindness. One community standing together.

This winter, we're opening our hearts and our pots to serve warm, nutritious soup to those who need it most.

We're calling on our amazing community to help us make this possible. Whether it's a bag of potatoes, a loaf of bread, a tin of tomato paste, or a packet of soup mix, every donation brings us one step closer to feeding someone in need.

No donation is too small. Every contribution matters, and every act of kindness makes a difference.

If you'd like to support our Soup Kitchen Initiative, please send us a WhatsApp on 063 178 2997.

Together, let's remind our community that no one has to face winter alone.

❤️ Together, We Can Make a Difference.

🥣 Help Us Feed Our Community This Winter

A warm bowl of soup may seem simple, but to someone who is hungry, it can mean everything.

This winter, Rise Up – Young Lives Matter is preparing to serve our community through our Soup Kitchen on:

📅 Saturday, 25 July
📅 Saturday, 1 August

We're inviting friends, families, businesses, and anyone who wants to make a difference to partner with us.

Whether you can donate:
🥔 Potatoes
🥕 Carrots
🧅 Onions
🍅 Tomatoes
🥫 Tomato Paste
🌱 Split Peas or Soup Mix
🫘 Beans
🍞 Bread

or simply share this post, you'll be helping us put another bowl of soup into someone's hands.

Because together, we're not just feeding people—we're reminding them that they are seen, valued, and cared for.
