What does it truly mean to build a career in global health?

On June 5th, the CGHI community—spanning 6 continents and diverse fields from medical anthropology to health economics—came together for an inspiring masterclass featuring Dr. Tanmay Bagade, Senior Lecturer in Medical Education and Global Health at the University of Newcastle, Australia.

With over 25 years of lived clinical experience spanning India, Somalia, Papua New Guinea, and Australia, Dr. Tanmay shared a deeply honest and profound reflection on a career driven by pivots, calculated risks, and an unwavering commitment to equity.

Here are the key takeaways from this impactful session ➡️

Our community showed up today for our monthly CGHI Community Call 🌍

This call reminded us why this space exists — to learn, connect, and take action on the issues that matter most in global health. Here's what's on our radar:

🎙️ Upcoming masterclass with Dr Tanmay Bagade — senior lecturer and obstetrician working at the intersection of global health, policy, and social justice. You don't want to miss this one, so join us on 5 June (Friday) at 12:00 CET (UTC+2).

🗣️ Our Language Barriers Project is in full swing — exploring how language shapes access to healthcare and patient outcomes. A blog is on the way. Stay tuned.

🌩️ We're also reflecting on the recent storms in South Africa and what extreme weather events mean for public health, especially for already-marginalised communities. Climate change is a health issue.

🤝 And a reminder: your network is a resource. Reach out to senior professionals. Ask for that interview. Pitch a collaboration. Meaningful opportunities start with a simple message.

The CGHI community is your platform — to learn, grow, and connect. Let's keep building this together. 💚

Hantavirus cases are making headlines, and the misinformation is already spreading faster than the virus.

The epidemiology is very different from COVID-19. But the social dynamics—the fear, the misinformation, the atigue, the polarised online debates—are starting to look the same.

We are proud to share a new piece that we collaborated on, exploring how young people should respond to emerging outbreaks and what preparedness after COVID-19 should look like instead.

Preparedness is not onlv about vaccines and surveillance systems.

It is also about how we communicate, how we maintain trust, and whether young people are meaningfully included in shaping responses.
