We are thrilled to welcome Buks Nel, a distinguished South African fruit industry expert, author, and innovator in apple cultivation, as our guest speaker. With a background in Entomology and Zoology from Stellenbosch University, Buks has made significant contributions to Integrated Pest Management and co-authored a key book on pest control.

As a key figure at Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, Buks played a pivotal role in discovering new apple varieties, including Bigbucks, Fuji Royal, and Shortie, all of which received Plant Breeder’s Rights. His work led to Bigbucks becoming Tru-Cape’s most planted variety, and an apple variety has even been named in his honor. Buks is also a co-author of a book exploring the history of apple cultivation and was instrumental in reintroducing the Witte Wijnappel variety to South Africa.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Buks, along with colleague Henk Griessel, was awarded the Hortgro 1662 Industry Award. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from one of the leading figures in the global fruit industry.
