The poem "Sometimes", written by Tasneem Daniels from Muslim Poets Society, was published today on the Paulet House Stories blog, a platform for written work by those who completed writing residencies with the Jakes Gerwel Foundation. This poem was also recited at our group's Cape Flats Stories feature with Stanley Jacobs a few weeks ago. Yay, poetry!

Diary of a playwright     Sometimes writing for yourself isn’t enough. Sometimes writing for the page isn’t enough. Sometimes in the middle of the night when the world has gone to sleep and you’re drinking chamomile tea beside a fluorescent lamp, sometimes you get visited by other voices. S...

Salaam Stories, a play written by Ashraf Johaardien, is a drama production showcasing the history, culture and lived experiences of the Cape Muslim community via the dialogue of many of its community members. This show had a run in Cape Town in 2003, a memorable performance by a cast that we know and love dearly!
Here's a signed playbill by Chad Abrahams among others who performed in the show that year at the Baxter Theatre. Many of the themes explored in this play reflects the mission statement of Muslim Poets Society, and we aspire to lead the narrative as beautifully as the Salaam Stories team did that year.
