With holdings in both physical and digital format, the project aims to illuminate the history of South Africa through the Jewish lens. The archive contains primary source materials in both physical and digital format and spans collections held at the University of Cape Town, as well as materials preserved at the South African Jewish Museum. Including documents, photographs, personal papers, interv
iews and film, the Jewish Living Archive allows us to illuminate the past of southern Africa through the Jewish lens. The physical component of the Jewish Living Archive comprises the collections held at the Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies under the larger University of Cape Town archives. The second facet of the Jewish Living Archive includes the digital collections preserved at the South African Jewish Museum (SAJM Archives). The SAJM digital archive holds materials donated by individuals and families. Initially gathered as part of the Jewish Digital Archive Project (JDAP), these collections focus on the social history of the South African Jewish community. SAJM Archives also holds digital copies of selected SA Jewish organizational and institutional archives. The SAJM Archives – including the JDAP social history collections - are online and may be viewed by the public via the SAJM Archives website: https://sajmarchives.com/
