This week we said a tearful goodbye to one of our sweet girls at the Safe House. 🥹🤍🕊️ The Lord provided a long term placement for her and we are so happy for her.
She is the longest placement we’ve ever had, and we’ve had the profound gift of watching her transform. She came to us deeply traumatized, carrying so much anger. Always running when things got hard or scary. And now? Now she knows what safety feels like. She has learned to sit with her emotions instead of fleeing them. She has grown into someone confident and sure of who she is.
Before coming to His Dwelling, she thought the world had given up on her. Family and others had abandoned and rejected her, thinking she was too broken, too troubled, too hard to love. A 13 year old child.
She changed every person who got to love her. Our staff, five people rooted in this very community, gave her something she had never known: consistency. Their stories are not so different from hers. They showed up for her the way they once wished someone had shown up for them. They understood her pain because they had lived it.
This work healed them while also providing steady income and a purpose beyond a job. When you get to be the safe place for someone who never had one, you are forever changed by it.
Through the tearful days and the breakthroughs and all the quiet days in between, they chose her. And God let them witness what happens when love refuses to quit. They watched a traumatized little girl slowly, beautifully, become someone who knows she is loved and worth staying for.
There is no greater gift than that.
That is what His Dwelling is all about. Not just a safe house or a program. A family made up of staff, volunteers, and supporters all saying: you are worth staying for. And she believed it. That is the miracle.
Every donation, every prayer, every yes was part of her story. You kept a caregiver in her life. You kept the lights on in the place where she finally felt safe. You were there, even though you never met her. 🌸
