Welcome to the Tygerberg Branch of South African Pony Club! We are finally opening a Pony Club in Tygerberg! It will be held at Silvermist Equestrian Center, in Joostenbergvlakte. We host rallies once or twice a month, and members are notified in advance the dates the rally will be held. Pony Club provides a chance for younger riders and equine lovers to improve their knowledge and skills relating
to horses, and horse riding. Rallies take place every month, during which members work towards earning badges, which in turn enables them to write proficiency tests. Members receive a certificate for each proficiency test passed. Pony Club certificates are internationally recognised, and for those who wish to pursue a career with equines, Pony Club is a great to jump start your career. Some of the topics (for which badges are awarded) covered during Pony Club rallies include:
• Equine Behaviour
• Feeding of equines
• Grooming
• Road safety
• Saddlery
• Plaiting and
• Stargazing, amongst many others
Pony Club is not just about learning, it also provides a fun social environment where riders can share their passion for horses and riding! Pony Club is open to anyone under the age of 21, whether or not you own your own horse. It is also open to friends of riders, you do not have to know how to ride to join Pony Club! The annual membership fee for Pony Club is R220, and the cost of each rally is R20. There is also a once off payment of R50, to cover the cost of your club pin. Please note Silvermist Equestrian Center does not benefit financially from hosting Pony Club, and all membership and rally fees go directly to Tygerberg Pony Club. The funds collected go towards purchasing badges, educational tools and any other needs of Pony Club. All work done to host Pony Club (and all work done behind the scenes) is entirely voluntary, and we are therefore also calling on parents of members to help us make this a fun learning experience for our young horse lovers. Please note that anyone attending rallies at Silvermist Equestrian Center must fill in and sign an indemnity form (unless you have already done so). Rallies are usually only one hour long, but the time can be extended for certain dates depending on goals for the specific rally. We will also only be having rallies once a month in the beginning, however if there is enough demand, we will increase this to twice a month. Please also note that it is not compulsory to attend every rally, although we recommend that you do so as not to miss important topics covered. In September of each year the inter-branch championships are held, during which the all the riders of the different branches of the Western Cape come together to compete in the different equine disciplines. In October or November of each year, we will also be having a Pony Club AGM and awards ceremony, which all members are required to attend.
