Ari's Cancer Foundation Ari’s Cancer Foundation, established in 2012, is run by 10 voluntary committee members Why ‘live, laugh, love’?

Ari’s Cancer Foundation, established in 2012, is run by 10 voluntary committee members and inspired by the life of a vibrant young lady Ariana (Ari), who lost her battle to cancer at the age of 24. Unbeknown to us, this was the motto by which Ari lived. It was only after Ari died and we went through her diary to arrange the memorial service, that we found this phrase all over in her diary. Looking

back, she really did embrace this philosophy wholeheartedly, and always reminds us that together, we can make a difference. It’s amazing how these three simple words can hold such significance and promise for the thousands of young adults fighting cancer. The foundation is affiliated with the Red Cross Children’s Hospital, St Luke’s Hospice and Groote Schuur Hospital, and raises funds for Youth Booths (more on this below) and to provide support for families that are fighting cancer or living with cancer. Many of these families have no financial support, medical aid or medical insurance schemes to cover the high expense of cancer treatment. In September 2014 Ari’s Cancer Foundation pledged to help the Adolescent and Young Adults (AYA) with cancer in South Africa. AYAs are defined as those who are aged between 15 and 39 years old.

We would like to thank the people who braved the bitterly cold weather yesterday to support our Ari's Memorial Walk. Despite the weather, we had an outstanding turnout and a wonderful atmosphere. The memorial walk affords us the opportunity to remember our loved ones lost to cancer, but it is also a time to reconnect with old friends, neighbours, and even school friends. We also used the occasion to honour and appreciate our Ari's Angels from Fairmont Secondary School, who, along with some of their educators, cycled the Cape Town Cycle Tour in March. Lastly, we need to thank our dedicated committee members, who helped make the day so memorable.

On Sunday, 8 March, the annual Cape Town Cycle Tour took place, featuring 25 cyclists from Ari's Angel. The group was split, with half completing the full 109 km and the other half participating in the 42km race. We would like to thank the learners and staff of Fairmont High for their tireless efforts in training, as well as our Committee members who managed the refreshment table.

Our annual ‘Cuppa for Cancer’ High Tea was a truly unforgettable experience, featuring exquisitely decorated tables and delectable treats, courtesy of our table hosts. Additionally, we were treated to exceptional musical performances by Leslie Kleinsmith, Lana English, and Victor Siljeur. We also had the privilege of listening to Cuazette Appolis share her cancer journey. We extend our sincere gratitude to all table hosts, supporters of this fundraising event, and the artists who graciously shared their remarkable talents with us.

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and while our primary focus remains on teen and young adult cancers, we are pleased to announce the launch of two initiatives that contribute to a broader cancer support network, inspiring hope and positivity: Cuppa Tea for Cancer, a closed event that encourages donations in lieu of attendance, and our annual 'Sock it to Cancer,' offering exclusive sock purchases at our Cuppa Tea event, with plans to expand public sales in the future. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the artists who will be supporting our Cuppa for Cancer event: Leslie Kleinsmith, Lana English, and Victor Siljeur.

🌈 A once-sterile hospital space has been transformed into a vibrant, healing space for young cancer warriors at Tygerberg Hospital — and we couldn’t be more proud 💛

Thanks to your support and our annual Gala last year, the new Tygerberg Care Centre is now a place of comfort, colour, and dignity for adolescents and young adults facing cancer.

This project is a tribute to Ari and a reminder that healing goes beyond medicine.
