🎓 To the Class of 2026 — congratulations!

You have put in the effort, reached this important milestone and are now preparing to face the final hurdle — your matric examinations.

The results you achieve will be recorded on your matric certificate and will form an important part of your journey as you pursue further education, employment and your career.

But you are also entering a new chapter of your life — one where you increasingly take direct responsibility for your decisions and your actions.

A little bit of 'innocent fun' can sometimes have lasting consequences. Don't lose sight of the mission.

Many matriculants are gathering at our beaches to celebrate reaching this final milestone with their friends. Make those memories ones you can look back on with pride — not regret.

🍺 Alcohol is not permitted in our bathing areas. More importantly, alcohol impairs judgement, slows reaction times and can dramatically increase the risks associated with swimming, driving and other activities.

🚔 Every year, too many lives are lost on our roads because of alcohol.

So, if you encounter our enforcement officers on the beach and they confiscate alcohol, understand that it is about more than simply enforcing a by-law. It is about protecting you.

You are the leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, parents and citizens who will shape our city and our country tomorrow. We want you to get there.

🌊 Please be responsible.

The ocean is one of our city's greatest treasures, but it demands respect. As with life itself, know your limits, identify the risks and respect the environment and the people around you.

Our thoughts are also with the family and friends of the 18-year-old student from Mfuleni who was swept out to sea at Maidens Cove on Saturday evening while swimming with friends.

Despite an extensive search and rescue operation, all efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.

It is a heartbreaking reminder that the ocean can change in an instant.

Celebrate your achievement. Enjoy this milestone. But most importantly — make sure you come home.

🚨 NOTHING STOLEN? PLEASE STILL OPEN A CASE 🚨

If someone tries to rob you but leaves empty-handed, it’s understandable to feel relieved and want to move on. But an attempted robbery is still a serious incident, and opening a case matters.

A recent attempted robbery in Camps Bay highlighted this. The suspects were located in Clifton, but no case was opened because nothing had been stolen, and they were released.

The same group reportedly went on to attempt another robbery in Sea Point before allegedly robbing a woman in Green Point, where a case was opened.

💬 “Nothing was stolen” does not mean nothing happened.

Opening a case promptly gives SAPS a formal record and a statement to investigate. It can help connect incidents, support action against suspects and potentially prevent further crimes.

🤝 Our CID teams and law enforcement partners work closely to share information and respond quickly. Your report is an important part of that response.

📌 Get to safety and alert SAPS and your local CID.
📌 Open a case, even if nothing was taken.
📌 Share descriptions, the time, location and direction the suspects fled.
