Western Cape Community Police Board Excellence Awards Celebrate Community Safety Champions
Cape Town – 24 Jan 2026

The Western Cape Provincial Community Police Board hosted the Western Cape Community Police Board Excellence Awards, an evening dedicated to recognising and celebrating the exceptional contribution of community safety volunteers, Community Police Forums (CPFs), neighbourhood structures, and law enforcement partners across the province.

The Awards serve as a platform to honour individuals and organisations who, often behind the scenes and without expectation of recognition, work tirelessly to promote safety, strengthen partnerships, and build trust between communities and law enforcement agencies. Established in terms of the South African Police Service Act and supported by the Constitution, CPFs remain a cornerstone of community policing and participatory safety in the Western Cape.

The ceremony brought together representatives from SAPS, Metro Police, Law Enforcement, Traffic Services, the Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety, government stakeholders, civil society, and community leaders. The event highlighted the power of collaboration.

Speaking at the event, representatives of the Provincial Community Police Board emphasised that the awards are not merely about trophies, but about acknowledging courage, service, innovation, and resilience in communities that face daily safety challenges.

“These awards recognise people who choose service over silence, action over apathy, and partnership over division,” the Board noted.

“They remind us that community safety is a shared responsibility and that volunteers remain the backbone of sustainable crime prevention.”

Right now, we're having a crucial conversation in Mfuleni with key players from across the Policing precinct, including the Minister of Police, Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Deputy Minister of Police, and top brass from SAPS. We all have the common goal of working together to tackle the real issues that are impacting our communities. The goal is clear: we want safer neighborhoods where everyone can thrive.
