In 1956, Muslims in Santiago began gathering for Jumu’ah in the home of Sheikh Taufik Muhammad Rumie. Three decades later, in 1986, Masjid As-Salam became the first mosque established in Chile — fulfilling a long-held dream of the Muslim community.

Ml Muhammad Carr visited this historic masjid, a place that has served as a gathering point for Chile’s Muslim community for decades.

Awwal Academy’s Annual Bismillah Ceremony is a special occasion where we come together to honour the Qur’anic journey of our learners and celebrate the progress they have made thus far.

Every page learnt, every verse recited and every moment spent with the Qur’an represents dedication, perseverance and a growing connection to the words of Allah.

It is a milestone shared not only by our learners, but by their families, teachers and the wider Awwal Academy community who continue to support them along the way.

May Allah place barakah in their learning, strengthen their connection with His Book, make the Qur’an a source of light and guidance in their lives, and grant them steadfastness throughout their journey.

May every verse they learn become a light they carry with them.

Alhamdulillah, what began with a handful of Hufaadth travelling to Chile has grown through the support of a community that believes in carrying the light of the Qur’an beyond borders.

This year, we begin earlier. We prepare earlier. And, InshaAllah, we hope to send even more light.
