💜🕊This morning, we walked in solidarity — for those who were taken from us because of GBV, for victims and survivors, for the mourners, for the organisations fighting this fight, and for the men who stood with us and led the walk.
This walk was POWERFUL. We prayed as we walked. We chanted through song. We cried. We screamed the names of those who can no longer speak for themselves.

I remembered the children from Ottery, my childhood area:

🕊️ Stacey-Lee Philander — only 13
🕊️ Dane Darris — only 11
🕊️ Sasha-Lee Crook— only 8
🕊️ Kee-Lyn Clayton — only 12
And my good friend from Westlake, 🕊Vuyiseka Poni — only 36.

They were brutally murdered, and some were also subjected to r**e and sexual violence by their perpetrators.
Today, we walked in BLACK and PURPLE, carrying our posters, carrying our pain, carrying their names.

But the question is: What happens after the walk?
We keep going.
We continue speaking.
We continue remembering.
We continue supporting survivors.
We continue helping our communities.
We cannot only march and then go home. Let us support organisations providing safe homes, essential supplies, counselling and support to victims and survivors of GBV.

Thank you to Lucinda Evans and her amazing team for creating this space for us to stand together, to remember, to grieve, to pray and to be heard.
This will NOT be the last walk. There will be more.
Because their names deserve to be remembered.
Their lives mattered.
Their stories matter.

We will join forces with Lucinda Evans & other organizations/NPO's on the 24th September HERITAGE DAY and march for our women and children we have lost.Stand in solidarity for our women and children.

It’s been a week of heaviness.

Memories overflowing in my mind. Emotions taking me on a rollercoaster. One minute I think I’m overcoming it, and the next headline awakens grief, anger and trauma all over again.

I can’t wait to get home after work, get into bed, cry, and mourn — not only for what I carry in my own heart, but for the families who have lost their beautiful, innocent women.

I feel their pain. I feel their fear. I feel their loss.
And honestly, I am angry.
SOUTH AFRICA, I AM ANGRY.

It has been more than 25 years since we lost our beloved Stacey, and after all these years, we are still being told to be careful, to be vigilant, to watch our surroundings, to make sure we get home safely — because we could become the next woman whose life is taken.
How many more women?
How many more families have to bury their daughters, mothers, sisters and friends?
We should not have to live our lives in fear.
We deserve to run.
We deserve to walk home.
We deserve to live.
And our women and children deserve to be safe. 💜
