šŸ† CSLC Annual Awards: The Chairman’s Award - Gina Mclelland

Since first stepping onto Clifton beach in 2014, Gina has shown unwavering commitment, leadership, and service to both the club and the wider lifesaving community.

From coaching Nippers and lifeguards to serving as a Club and Provincial Manager, Selector, and Western Cape High Performance Manager, her contribution to the growth and development of lifesaving has been extraordinary. Much of the strength, skill, and culture seen across our lifeguard group today reflects the time, care, and expertise Gina has invested over many years.

What makes Gina’s contribution so special is the consistency with which she continues to give back. Whether mentoring younger lifeguards, supporting clubs across the province, or quietly stepping up wherever needed, her impact reaches every corner of the club.

Gina’s dedication, leadership, and selfless service embody everything the Chairman’s Award stands for, and we are incredibly proud to recognise her with this honour.

šŸ† CSLC Annual Awards: The Captain’s Award - Moune Ilderton & Ellen Hodgkinson

The Captain’s Award is one of the club’s most prestigious honours, recognising individuals whose leadership, commitment, and contribution leave a lasting impact across every aspect of the club.

Throughout the season, Moune and Ellen consistently showed up with professionalism, energy, and genuine care for the people around them. Whether leading on patrol, training, competing, supporting club operations, or creating the welcoming ā€œClubbie vibeā€ that makes Clifton so special, their impact has been impossible to overlook.

Both have led by example through their dedication, reliability, and willingness to always give back to the club while balancing studies, work, training, leadership responsibilities, and life outside of Clifton. Their contribution, attitude, and commitment embody everything this award stands for.

Clifton’s lifeguards have quietly just done something incredible! šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ‘šŸ½

And it really puts things into perspective.

The Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club has released its 2025–2026 season report, and for the first time in its 70-year history, they’ve actually measured the impact of what happens on that coastline every weekend.

The number that stands out? Over R35 million worth of value created through prevention, rescues, and volunteer patrols.

But the real headline is simpler than that. Zero drownings while patrols were active.

That’s huge.

Across the season, there were rescues, medical emergencies, and thousands of moments where lifeguards stepped in before things became disasters… most of which the public never even sees.

Because that’s the thing about this job.

It’s not just the dramatic rescues. It’s the small decisions. The early warnings. The ā€œdon’t go thereā€ moments that quietly change outcomes.

And behind it all are volunteers who show up every weekend to keep people safe.

⚔Dedication to Duty: Darryl Lindt
Ellen Hodgkinson, Luke Meyer, Kendra Beresford, Milena Pugliese, Jack Allot, Imani Magotsi, Italia Pugliese, Teagan Thompson, Jessie Allot
We had loads of members who went above and beyond their required duty which is truly remarkable and worth celebrating. Congratulations to Darryl Lindt on a staggering 145.5 hours of duty!

⚔Squad of the Year: Arcadia
Criteria: Average number of people on duty, AWOL data, and other qualitative data is considered. Incredibly hard this year between two top squads. This squad and their leaders put in massive effort to top the 7 other squads for the top spot.

⚔Squad Leader of the Year: Milena Pugliese
The Squad Leader of the Year award recognises someone who has shown exceptional leadership, commitment, and dedication throughout the season.
After recently returning to competition, Milena threw herself back into the sport with incredible energy and passion. Throughout the season, she stood out in her role as Junior Vice Squad Leader, confidently stepping up whenever needed and consistently leading by example.

Whether supporting her squad on duty, helping maintain structure on the beach, or balancing her IRB course alongside commitments outside the club, Milena’s leadership and reliability never went unnoticed.

šŸ†CSLC Annual Awards 25/26 – Lifesaving Awards

āš”ļøSpirit of Clifton Junior: Jessie Allot
Jessie showed incredible spirit all season, whether in competition, training, or supporting others. Her positivity, selfless attitude, and constant smile lifted everyone around her. A perfect example was the Clifton Surf Comp in pouring rain, where despite freezing conditions, she never stopped smiling and bringing energy to the beach. Jessie truly represents Clifton spirit.

⚔Spirit of Clifton Senior: Kiaan Terblanche & Darryl Lindt
Choosing this award was incredibly difficult, as both Darryl and Kiaan embody the Spirit of Clifton.

Darryl showed unwavering commitment all season through Squad Leading, IRB driving, competition set-up, and always being first on the beach and last to leave. No matter how busy life became, he constantly gave his time and energy to the club.

Although new to the sport, Kiaan embraced Clifton spirit from day one. In his first season, he threw himself into club life with passion and enthusiasm, mentoring younger athletes, supporting the club at competitions, and proudly representing Clifton colours. His positivity and team spirit made a huge impact in a short time.

⚔Snr Dedication to All Areas of Lifesaving: Darryl Lindt
Despite only joining Clifton a few years ago, Darryl has made an incredible impact through his work ethic, commitment, and support across training, patrols, competitions, and club activities. His consistency and dedication make him a truly deserving recipient. Unfortunately, he could not attend to receive the award in person.

⚔Jnr Dedication to All Areas of Lifesaving: Matthew Brooker
Since joining Clifton, Matthew has become a valued member of the club through his dedication, leadership, and commitment. As a Squad Leader, he has been dependable, supportive, and a great role model, while also excelling as an athlete. His commitment across duty, training, and competitions makes him a deserving recipient.

Our Annual Awards were held at Rugby Club. Thank you to the behind the scenes team for the exceptional service and for making our celebrations so special! šŸ’›šŸ–¤
