Day 1,947/3,209: Ordinary Time: Continuing Prayers for our Country and for the World

“May the nations praise you, O God. Yes, may all the nations praise you. Let the whole world sing for joy because you govern the nations with justice and guide the people of the whole world.” Psalm 67:3–4

Lord Jesus, you are risen! But our work continues, as we pray for the salvation of all peoples, in our country and in our world. Heavenly Father, in your mercy, hear our prayers.

Almighty God, the Father of us all, we ask you to inspire the people of this land with the spirit of justice, truth and love, so that in all our dealings with one another and with the peoples of the world, we may show that together we are one in you. For the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, in your mercy Father, hear our prayer. (Anglican Prayer Book)

God our Father, you are the source of all truth and peace: look with mercy on all your children in the world, purify our hearts from all hatred, falsehood and prejudice, and so guide us by your loving wisdom that peace and righteousness may be established among all people. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, in your mercy Father, hear our prayer. (Anglican Prayer Book)

Almighty Father, your will is that all people should live in unity. We thank you for the tentative beginnings of peace in the war against Iran and we continue to pray for an end to the war in the wider Middle East, in Ukraine and in all the places in our world where people fight and kill and destroy each other. Give your grace to all nations to walk in the way of your commandments and to live together in peace, justice and freedom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Father, in your mercy, hear our prayer. (Anglican Prayer Book)

Jesus, we come to you with empty hands and fearful hearts as we look at the death and destruction happening in our world every day. We trust only in your power to raise up leaders who will seek peace. We pray especially for our brothers and sisters of all faiths who stand up for what is righteous and just in a crooked world and who suffer for it, for we are one Body, in Jesus Christ our Lord. We pray especially for Pope Leo and all other church leaders, that they may continue to speak words of peace, showing us the better way, the narrow way. May the attacks against them crumble to dust and be blown away by the Spirit of God. Holy Spirit, mover of hearts and minds, blow through those who lead nations and lead them to the Cross, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You are the true King of peace.
In You alone is found freedom.
Please free our world from conflict.
Bring unity to troubled nations.
Let Your glorious peace reign in every heart.
Dispel all darkness and evil.
Protect the dignity of every human life.
Replace hatred with Your love.
Give wisdom to world leaders.
Free them from selfish ambition.
Eliminate all violence and war.
We pray for peace.
We pray for unity amongst nations.
We pray for unity amongst all people.
We pray for the most vulnerable.
We pray for those suffering.
We pray for the fearful.
We pray for those most in need.
We pray for all those who have lost their loved ones, may your comfort rest upon them.
We pray for those who have lost their lives, may your gates be open to them.
In these times of danger to our world, we pray for us all.
Jesus, Son of the Living God, have mercy on us.
Jesus, hear our prayers.
Jesus, we trust in You!
Amen.

Lord, in your mercy hear our prayers.

“No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live. When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” John 14:18-20

Father, we reclaim our world from the claws of the enemy, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

Day 1,946/3,209: Ordinary Time: Continuing Prayer against Xenophobia and Racism

‘I will pour out my Spirit on all people.’ Joel 2:28a

Good and gracious God, who loves and delights in all people, we stand in awe before you, knowing that the spark of life within each person in our country is the spark of your divine life, and that differences among cultures and races are multi-coloured manifestations of your divine light.

Father, you invite us to recognize and reverence your divine image and likeness in our neighbour. Enable us to see the reality of racism and free us to challenge and uproot it from our country and ourselves. Open our hearts and minds to celebrate the similarities and differences among our sisters and brothers, as we serve you by loving you, in our neighbours.

Healing God, we pray you would heal the spiritual, emotional, and physical wounds many in our country carry due to the colour of their skin and our dark history. Remove the spirit of division at the root of racism and replace it with your love, unity, and peace. Bring healing to those who are traumatized by racism personally or indirectly. Heal souls from the sin of racism which separates them from you and others. Bring healing to families, communities, and each individual broken heart. We pray for the wounds of trauma to be healed through the power of Scripture. “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 30:17a)

Father, we pray against the strongholds of darkness that seek to maintain old ways of thought and belief and set us free to truly build new ways of thinking, being, and doing which honour and serve all people equally. We pray for all people who are deceived by the darkness and pulled into unloving and violent ways of treating their neighbours. We pray against all the forces in our country that are driving people to believe that foreigners and immigrants are our enemies. Father, we reclaim their lives for you and lay them at the foot of your cross, to be bathed in the stream of your grace and mercy, to be filled with your Spirit and restored to your Kingdom, for Jesus Christ’s sake, Amen.

Lord, we pray that the inherent dignity and value of every human being in our country be recognized and that they be empowered to maximize their God-given potential by access to good education and employment opportunities. Rooted in the knowledge of Christ’s saving grace, help us all to be leaders in bringing about societal transformation from the individual to the collective whole by the power of God. Help us to embrace and not shy away from difficult conversations but rather give us the power of listening to hear and understand the words spoken by our hurting brothers and sisters.

We pray Father against the spirit of xenophobia raging in our country. We pray that those who see the immigrants and foreigners in our country as a threat will have hearts changed from stone to flesh. We pray protection over immigrant communities and that you will remove threats of violence against them. We pray for peace in our country ahead of the threatened action on 30 June, for the spirit of Ubuntu to spread into our people and into our hearts, in Jesus name, Amen.

Let each of us keep examining our own hearts and we pray your forgiveness Lord for we have each one of us failed to:
Fully loved You Lord God, and fully loved our neighbours as our very selves.
Recognise any of our actions or words which have offended our brothers or my sisters.
Open our hearts to see how unequal access to economic opportunity, jobs, housing, and education on the basis of skin colour, race, or ethnicity, has denied and continues to deny the equal dignity of others.
Recognise any root of racism within each of us that blurs our vision of who our neighbours are.
Intervene when someone “falls victim” to personal, institutional, systematic, or social racism and we did or said nothing, leaving the victim to address their pain alone.
Recognise when someone “falls victim” to personal, institutional, systematic, or social racism with me inflicting the pain, acting opposite of love of God and love of neighbour.

We pray for the people of our country:

and give us hearts of flesh,
hearts to love and adore Thee,

“But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. “ 1 John 1:7

Day 1,946/3,209: Ordinary Time: June 16th – Prayer for the Youth of South Africa

“For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake. Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.” 1 Peter 1:18-21

Most Loving Father of us all, our past continues to haunt our present. On days like today we remember all the children and young people who faced death to bring an end to the injustices in our country. And yet the injustices towards our young people continue – poverty, hunger, homelessness, violence, abuse, educational inequality, unemployment, and hopelessness that spawns so many other evils in their lives. Father, forgive us that we as a country have failed to provide for our children the better future that others died for. We have wasted too much time already.

Lord, we pray for strength, courage, and boldness. Protect them from every destructive influence, substance abuse, and hopelessness. In a world full of complex choices, guide their steps and grant them wisdom and a clear sense of identity and purpose. Fill them with Your peace, and let the pain of any past or present struggles not overtake their future

Father, open the way for our children to move into a more deserving future. Let us remember our joint responsibility with government to give them homes that nurture and care for them, food to fill their bellies, schools where they learn and grow, inspiration and opportunity to study further, and ways in which to earn a living and create meaningful lives for themselves.

Lord, we pray over all the measures being taken by Government and civil society to create learning and work opportunities, enhance skills development, support young entrepreneurs, and create pathways for young people into the labour market. Unleash upon these programmes and interventions the power of your Creative Spirit, that they will continue to gain momentum and grow in depth and richness.

Father, pour out your Spirit upon the children and young people of South Africa. May they remember your instruction to them: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12) Rescue them from darkness and hopelessness and restore in them a hope for the future, in the name of your precious Son, Jesus, Amen.

“Yet I will choose to rejoice in the Lord; I will choose to shout in exultation in the victorious God of my Salvation! The Lord God is my strength my source of courage, my invincible army; He has made my feet steady and sure like hind’s feet and makes me walk forward with spiritual confidence in my high places of challenge and responsibility.” Habakkuk 3:18-19

Father, we claim the future for our children as we reclaim our country from the claws of the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

Day 1,945/3,209: Ordinary Time: Continuing Prayer over the ANC Electoral Conference, 2027

“Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].” Proverbs 3:5-6

Jesus our Saviour and Lord, you humbled yourself to walk amongst us, never thinking yourself greater than those you came to save. We praise and thank you that your example of service and your words of leadership are still here for all who have ears to hear and eyes to see.

Lord, you know our continual prayer is for the raising up of righteous leaders in our country and we pray the new leaders will be chosen for:
Their ability to unite and not divide.
Their ability to lead by example of service and not by example of self-interest.
Their honesty and integrity with no taint of corruption.
Their hearts for the poor and marginalised in our country and not by greed and enrichment of the already rich.
Their desire to do good and not evil.
Lives that are lived with wisdom and integrity.
Hearts that are overflowing with the love of God, minds that are steeped in God’s word and spirits that are led by the Spirit of God.

Lord, work in the hearts of those choosing the new leaders and in the hearts of the potential candidates, for you Lord, have the power to direct the ways of men and women. Holy Spirit, sweep through all those involved in the nomination process and all those who are nominated. Sway their hearts, minds, and spirits towards you, to hear the whisper of your call and to shape them to your will. May your ways be known in our country and your name be lifted up in the corridors of power as we pray your word into fulfilment: “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honour the one who serves me.” (John 12:26) Father, direct us in the footsteps of your Son.

Lord, we pray over the nomination and election processes. We pray for honesty and transparency in all proceedings with no taint of corruption. We pray for outcomes that reveal your Glory.

Holy Spirit, may your power be like a weight of glory on the days of the conference, bowing knees before you, reclaiming righteousness.

Lord, we bring ourselves in stillness before you, as we wait patiently for you to act (Psalm 37:7). In your mercy Lord, hear our cry.

“Open your heart and consider my words. Watch out that you do not mistake your opinions for revelation-light! If your spirit burns with light, fully illuminated with no trace of darkness, you will be a shining lamp, reflecting rays of truth by the way you live.” Luke 11:35–36

Father, we reclaim our leadership and our country and our people from the claws of the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

Day 1,944/3,209: Ordinary Time: Continuing Days of Focused Prayer against Corruption in our Country

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10

Almighty God, we come before you with hearts heavy with the weight of corruption that plagues our country. We seek your guidance and intervention to cleanse our government, society, our institutions, and our hearts from the stain of dishonest practices and immoral acts.

Grant us the strength to stand firm in the face of temptation. Let truth and integrity be our guiding principles, as we strive to build a country founded on justice and righteousness. May those in positions of power be blessed with wisdom and courage to lead with honesty, serving the greater good rather than personal gain.

Illuminate the darkness with your divine light, exposing deceit and bringing wrongdoers to account. Inspire each of us to be vigilant and proactive in our pursuit of a fair and transparent society. Let our actions reflect your teachings, promoting trust and unity among all our people.

We ask you help us to heal the wounds that corruption has inflicted on communities and individuals. Restore hope where despair has taken root and renew our collective commitment to fostering environments where fairness and respect thrive.

With your benevolent grace, we vow as a nation and as individuals, to uphold the values of truth, equity, and compassion. Guide us in our endeavours to eradicate corruption, replacing it with a culture of integrity and honour.

In Your holy name, we pray:
For the Exposure of Corruption: God, may the light of truth shine on all acts of corruption. Help expose those who misuse their power and resources. May their schemes be revealed and stopped, and justice be served.
For the Poor and Oppressed: Lord, we pray for those who are suffering under the weight of corruption. Strengthen them, protect them, and raise up those who will champion their cause. May they experience your justice and find relief from exploitation.

For Personal Renewal: God, help each of us to be persons of integrity. May our individual actions be guided by your principles, and may we resist the allure of corruption. Strengthen each of our commitment to honesty and fairness.

For the Nation: Father, we pray for our nation, that it may be free from the grip of corruption. May we be a people who love justice, embrace honesty, and work together for the common good. We ask for your blessing and guidance.

For God to raise up political leaders who will stand against corruption. We pray for protection over those leaders who refuse bribes and call others to be accountable. Pray for the Holy Spirit to convict those who have been accepting bribes or misusing money, that they would turn away from this sin and experience forgiveness, like Zacchaeus did. Let ungodly stewards be deposed from their office and let another more righteous person take their place.

For just laws to be passed and upheld that do not favour the rich or allow rampant corruption, that require appropriate accountability and oversight. We pray for the establishment of a just government, just businesses and churches, and a just society. Shine the light of truth on corruption, for unlawful activities to be revealed and stopped.

Prayer against the spirit of brazenness
Almighty Father, we see the corrupt strut brazenly amongst us, no longer ashamed when their corruption is exposed, as they continue to plunder our land’s resources for their own benefit. King of Heaven’s Armies, we bring your might against this spirit of brazenness, to break and defeat it, so that the hearts of the corrupt will be convicted and they will turn from their sinful ways. “That the creation itself will be set free from its bo***ge to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.” (Romans 8:21) In the name of Jesus, we rest upon your word, believing that you will break the bo***ge of corruption and release us into the freedom of the glory of the children of God, Amen.

“Just as [in His love] He chose us in Christ [actually selected us for Himself as His own] before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy [that is, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven] and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as [His own] children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will— to the praise of His glorious grace and favor, which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved [His Son, Jesus Christ ].” Ephesians 1:4-6

Father, we reclaim our people, our society and our country from the rot of corruption, and the claws of the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ

Day 1,943/3,209: Ordinary Time: Continuing Prayer for our President, our Government and Parliament

“That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.” Joel 2:12

Dearest Father, we worship you because you are worthy of our praise. We bow our heads in reverence before you and bend our knees in humility and supplication. You are our Mighty God, in whom we place our trust and hope for the future. Only by your grace are we saved.

We pray Father for our President, our Government and our Parliament, and for all who serve there. At this moment of potential crisis Father, as impeachment proceedings are debated against President Ramaphosa, we ask that you send the Holy Spirit to inhabit the hearts of the people involved in this process. We pray especially over the Impeachment Committee members together with the elected chairperson Makashule Gana, that in seeking the way forward they will first seek you Jesus, the way and the truth. We call forth righteousness and just outcomes, and we pray for that your wisdom may guide all involved on every step of the way.
Lord Jesus, cover our land and our government with peace and stability as we seek answers and await decisions.

In your mercy Lord, hear our prayer.

“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” Romans 12:12

Father, we reclaim our country from the claws of the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

Day 1,942/3,209: Ordinary Time: Reflection, Intercession and Thanksgiving

“When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” “Be quiet!” many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, “Tell him to come here.” So they called the blind man. “Cheer up,” they said. “Come on, he’s calling you!” Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “My Rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!” And Jesus said to him, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.” Mark 10:47-52

‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.” Leviticus 6:13

“Living God, deliver us from a world without justice and a future without mercy; in your mercy establish justice and, in your justice, remember the mercy revealed to us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” Prayer of Peace from the Church of England.

“We often rush through life as if time were endless, but every moment is a gift, every breath grace. Wisdom counts time not by minutes but by meaning. To pray is to live awake, attentive to the God who is present now. We cannot boast about tomorrow, but we can participate in today. Prayer keeps us rooted in the holy ordinary, reminding us that eternity brushes against us in each passing hour.”

Heavenly Father, we, the intercessors, come before you with hearts full of gratitude and reverence. We are reminded by Your word in Leviticus 6:13, "The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out." Lord, let this eternal flame symbolize our unwavering faith and devotion to you and to your call upon our lives to intercede for our country and our people. Continually kindle within us a fire of passion for your truth, a steadfast commitment to your commandments, and a relentless pursuit of your presence. May the flames of our spiritual fervour burn brightly, never dimming, never faltering. Let our lives be a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to you, continually offering praise and worship upon the altar of our hearts. Fill us with the warmth of your Holy Spirit, guiding our steps and illuminating our path. May we, like the ever-burning fire, be constant in our love for You and unyielding in our dedication to spreading Your light in this world. In your holy name, we pray, Amen.

Today we take the time to pause, reflect on the prayers of the last 7 days of fervent prayer for our country during a vulnerable time of change, giving thanks to God for the victories.

We continue to intercede on behalf of our nation and our people Lord, for your work in our hearts and our lives is not yet done. The battle to reclaim our country and our people is not yet done. We remember that when we cry out to you Lord Jesus, you rescue us. Lord, strengthen our faith as we intercede for our people, as we stand in the gap and pray on behalf of our nation for you to rescue us:

Matthew 6:9-13 (TPT) (the Lord's prayer) – "In this manner, therefore, pray:
‘Our Beloved Father, dwelling in the heavenly realms, may the glory of your name be the center on which our lives turn. Manifest your kingdom realm and cause your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth, just as it is in heaven. We acknowledge you as our Provider of all we need each day. Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we ourselves release forgiveness to those who have wronged us. Rescue us every time we face tribulation and set us free from evil. For you are the King who rules with power and glory forever. Amen.’

“Now Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” Acts 4:29-31

Lord, stretch out your hand and heal us, let us see signs and wonders.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3

Lord, help us to run with perseverance the race you have marked out for your intercessors, let us not grow weary or lose heart.

“Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:15-16

Jesus, we proclaim you as Messiah, the Son of the living God and we offer you our praises:
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever: To Him who alone does great wonders, For His mercy endures forever; To Him who by wisdom made the heavens, For His mercy endures forever; To Him who laid out the earth above the waters, For His mercy endures forever; To Him who made great lights, For His mercy endures forever— The sun to rule by day, For His mercy endures forever; The moon and stars to rule by night, For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven! For His mercy endures forever.” Psalms 136:1-9, 26

“For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.” 2 Corinthians 1:20

Amen, come Lord Jesus, come, deliver the world, our country and all your people everywhere, for the glory of God.

Father, we praise You and claim Your mighty victories, as we reclaim our country from the claws of the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen‬‬‬‬‬‬

“For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 1:9

Father, we reclaim our country from the darkness of racism and xenophobia, as we reclaim it from the claws of the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
