For the past three years, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has worked alongside the Eastern Cape Department of Health, community-based organisations and local communities to strengthen diabetes and hypertension care in the Amathole District.

MSF helped bring healthcare closer to where people live through community medication pick-up points, healthcare worker training, improved diabetes management, and community outreach.

As this project is gradually handed over to the Department of Health, MSF is proud to support the launch of a new medication pick-up point and the district-wide rollout of HbA1c point-of-care testing, an innovation that gives patients and clinicians immediate diabetes test results, enabling faster treatment decisions and better care.

This handover marks more than the end of a project. It reflects the strength of partnership, local leadership and sustainable healthcare that will continue to benefit communities long after MSF's role comes to an end.
