Our pad drive with Grade 6 & 7 learners wasn’t just about pads. We sat down, had real conversations about periods, broke the shame, and reminded every girl that her body is normal and powerful.

Menstruation is a natural bodily process, but people who menstruate experience it differently. The experience can be positive, neutral or uncomplicated, painful, shame-inducing or stigmatizing. Negative experiences with menstruation can strongly impact overall health and well-being (World Health Organisation, 2026)

An estimated 500 million people who menstruate globally lack access to menstrual materials and appropriate facilities to meet their menstrual health needs, including water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
