Morning colleagues,

We are pleased to confirm that the iLGM delegation has arrived safely in Namibia and is currently in the northern region of Ongwediva, near the Namibia–Angola border. The team travelled from Windhoek to Toivo ya Toivo Airport without incident.

The NALAO AGM officially commences today under very hot conditions, but spirits are high and the delegation is ready to engage fully. We are especially proud of the President of iLGM for delivering a strong and supportive message at the opening, reaffirming our commitment to strengthening local government across the region.

We will continue to keep you updated on proceedings.

🕊️ iLGM MOURNS THE LOSS OF 12 SCHOOL CHILDREN 🕊️

iLGM conveys its deepest condolences to the families, friends, schools and communities affected by the tragic loss of 12 school children who died in a road accident in Vanderbijlpark while travelling to school.

Their young lives were filled with promise.
Their loss is a national tragedy that demands action.

📊 Road Safety Reality in South Africa
▪ Hundreds of children lose their lives each year in scholar transport-related accidents
▪ Unroadworthy vehicles, speeding, overloading and weak enforcement remain key causes
▪ Learner transport safety remains a shared responsibility across all spheres of government

🚸 Our Commitment as Local Government
iLGM reaffirms its commitment to:
✔️ Strengthening collaboration through functional Local Transport Forums
✔️ Working with transport operators, schools and communities
✔️ Supporting visible and effective local law enforcement to protect learners and all road users

🛑 No child should lose their life on the way to school.

Let us honour the memory of the children we lost by building safer roads and safer transport systems for every learner.
