BREAKING NEWS: South Africa has officially signed the ( ), stepping up as a global leader in ocean protection.
At the United Nations Oceans Conference currently taking place in Nice, France, our Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Minister Dr Dion George joined nations by committing South Africa to working towards safeguarding marine life beyond borders - international waters which make up two-thirds of our ocean!
Once ratified, this landmark agreement would mean:
- Stronger protection for ocean biodiversity
- Fairer benefit-sharing for developing nations
- Smarter, sustainable marine planning
From food security to climate resilience, we are proud that South Africa is championing a future where our oceans thrive.
