At Happy Wings Sanctuary every feather tells a story of resilience, healing and hope.

Many of the parrots in our care come from difficult pasts. Neglect, loss or homes where they could no longer stay.
Here they are given a second chance…not just to live, but to truly thrive. At our sanctuary they find safety, freedom, companionship and the love they deserve every single day.

Our sanctuary is more than a place, it’s a promise. A promise that no bird will be forgotten and that each one will be cared for with patience, respect and kindness.

Within our sanctuary we also have Die Papegaai Hotel. A safe and tranquil space where your parrots can stay while you’re away. Here they receive loving care, enrichment and super healthy meals.

By booking with Die Papegaai Hotel you’re not only giving your parrot a peaceful, nurturing holiday, you are directly supporting the birds who now call Happy Wings their forever home. Caring for so many parrots comes with significant costs, and we are also dependent on donations to continue our work.

Running a sanctuary isn’t just a passion — it’s a full-time, every-minute commitment.

Behind every happy, healthy parrot is a long list of unseen work. Early mornings, late nights. Fresh chop to prepare every day, bowls to scrub, aviaries to clean. Enrichment to rotate. Rescue calls to answer.

There are no weekends, no public holidays. No “I’ll do it tomorrow.”
When you feel tired, you keep going.
When you’re not feeling well, the birds still needs you.
When funds are tight, you make a plan.

Sanctuary life is beautiful — but it is also physically, emotionally, and financially demanding. The birds don’t understand days off. They only know routine, safety and the love and attention they receive every single day.

Some days are exhausting. Some days feel overwhelming.
But then a previously neglected parrot steps up for the first time 🥰
A fearful bird learns to trust again 🥰
A bonded pair finds comfort in each other💕

And that’s why we push forward.

Because this is more than work.
It’s responsibility, It’s commitment, It’s love in action.
