OFFICIAL STATEMENT BY THE AVON EYE COMMUNITY FORUM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: 19 May 2026
SUBJECT: CORRECTION AND CLARIFICATION ON RECENT POLITICAL ENDORSEMENTS AND CHANGES IN EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP
The executive committee and members of the Avon Eye Community Forum have noted with great concern a controversial post by Oscar Chidi, endorsing a specific individual for the upcoming local government elections.
As an organization deeply rooted in the advancement and defense of our community, we wish to officially clarify our position, reaffirm our core mandate, and announce the immediate organizational measures taken in response to this matter.
1. The Sacred Responsibility of Leadership
As leaders of Avon Eye, we carry a profound and weighty responsibility. The masses of Marobjane have placed their immense trust in us to defend their interests.
With a clear conscience, we cannot and will not participate in a manner that betrays that trust. We refuse to take the very people who came to us crying, seeking relief from oppression, and lead them right back into the hands of the same system that has abused and exploited them for years. It is our absolute responsibility to deliver our community from this cycle and lead them toward an alternate reality one built on genuine accountability, justice, and community-led progress.
2. Distance from Party Politics and Individual Endorsements
Like any individual citizen of South Africa, Mr. Chidi possesses the constitutional right to associate with and endorse any political candidate of his choosing. However, Avon Eye is not a one-man show.We operate as a collective executive, and our organizational decisions are never mandated by a single individual.
The members and leaders of Avon Eye came together from various political backgrounds with a shared, conscious decision: to strip away party politics and focus purely on serving our community.
3. Our Stand Against Systems of Governance Failures
To this moment, Avon Eye does not, and will not, endorse any political party. The political options currently on the table represent the very entities we have continuously fought against regarding the misuse of community resources.
We cannot be found endorsing a system that still, to this day, participates in the unjust and corrupt hiring of personnel at the expense of our people. Consequently, we categorically reject the ANC and all ANC candidates. We refuse to be subjected to, or succumb to, decisions that align us with the structural failures we are actively fighting to dismantle.
4. Executive Briefing and the Action Taken
Following the controversial post, the Executive Committee held an urgent meeting with Mr. Chidi. During this meeting, he expressed a view that a certain political faction was gaining ground, and stated that his endorsement was an attempt to curb that faction's chances of winning.
This political maneuvering completely contradicts the foundational resolutions and non-partisan mandate of Avon Eye. In light of this, the collective took the following steps:
We formally requested that he retract the political posture he took; he refused.
We formally requested that he step aside from his leadership role; he refused.
5. Resolution of the Collective Executive
Because we refuse to allow the integrity of this forum to be compromised or dictated by one man's personal views, the Executive Committee has reached a final resolution:
Effective immediately, Oscar Chidi will be referred to only as the "Former Chairman." He is stripped of his capacity to speak or act on behalf of the forum. This measure will remain firmly in place until such a time that he issues a formal retraction and a public apology to the people of Marobjane.
Avon Eye belongs to the community, not to individuals, factions, or political parties. We remain unified, steadfast, and entirely focused on service delivery, justice, and delivering the alternative future that Marobjane deserves.
