On 28 May 2026,
the Eco-Champions of Ntumediseng Secondary School conducted an Environmental Awareness Campaign aimed at identifying issues that negatively impact the environment, pose health risks, and potentially cause physical harm to learners and staff.
During the campaign, several concerns were identified within the school environment. Learners highlighted the urgent need for proper pavement, as the school grounds become muddy and difficult to access during rainy weather. It was also noted that classrooms require regular cleaning to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
In addition, old and broken furniture placed outside classrooms was identified as a safety hazard, especially during learnersβ recreational activities. Some of the damaged desks and furniture can be collected by recycling companies for repurposing and environmental sustainability initiatives.
The Eco-Champions further raised concerns regarding long-standing sewage leakages on the school premises. The unpleasant odor, particularly during hot weather conditions, creates discomfort and affects breathing, posing serious environmental and health concerns.
Despite these challenges, the school renovation process currently underway is showing promising progress and brings hope for improved learning conditions in the near future.
As a way forward, the concerns raised by learners will be formally communicated to the school principal, and follow-up engagements will be conducted to ensure that meaningful action and positive change are achieved.
